![]() Mr. Iurie Leanca Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dear friends from the International Community, I'm here today to inform you about an issue that is strangling our economy since 2006. Sadly, the Republic of Moldova it is known for having the title of "the poorest" state in Europe, something that, as Prime Minister of my beloved country, horrifies myself. In 2006, the former PM Vasile Tarlev started talks with the European Union and the response of the Russian Federation was the banning of our wine exports to that country. Wine industry is one of our most important sectors and Russia was our biggest market. Wine trade with the Russian Federation before 2006 represented the 80% of our total wine exports. Without them, our economy is deeply affected. In 2013, they announced again a ban on imports of Moldovan wines and spirits, saying they "contained impurities". That's unfounded. Our wines have been drunk in Russia and the Soviet Union for years and we never received any argument about it. That's only a campaign to pressure this government to withdraw their talks with the EU but we won't cede. The Union is the future of the Republic of Moldova and Russia can't do nothing to stop this will. For that reason, I ask Moscow to put an end to this shameful embargo that is causing a lot of suffering not only to our economy but also hundreds of Moldovan families that have wine as modus vivendi. Dankvert Sergey Alexeevich Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance This is, in fact, the first time that the Moldovan Government, apart from using sharp and misplaced rhetoric about 'Russian economic warfare', is expressing the will to prove the quality of Moldovan wine produce. If we can find an agreement on the matter and laboratory tests confirm the purity of the Moldovan wine exports, we will, as repeatedly stated, lift the ban without hesitation. |

Minister rolnictwa i rozwoju wsi l Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Yet, Russian officials are indeed more interested in politics than disease prevention and health safety. The Russian Federation has banned Polish meat imports in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014 respectively, continually citing issues including either falsified veterinary records, of disease prevention. The Russian Federation is the only nation to do so, until recently joined by China this year , and most of the bans have occurred during stressed relations. The European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, and various teams of experts, have repeatedly analyzed Poland's practices and have cleared Polish meat exports as compliant of European health and safety standards. Poland has also, repeatedly, taken its own precautions, in order to pacify Russian concerns, however these are increasingly becoming unfounded. The most recent issue regarding wild boars has been contained in both Poland and Lithuania, whereas Belarus did not take similar precautions. Of course, Minsk was not slammed with a similar embargo, as there is no interest in Moscow to see the destruction of the local meat industry there. Therefore I'm sure other representatives can understand - if Russian ones cannot - why we see the most recent sanctions as purely politically charged and based. Our government will be supportive of the European Commission's complaint to the World Trade Organization on our government's, and Lithuania's behalf. |

![]() Mr. Iurie Leanca Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dear friends from the International Community, I must inform you that Russia completely forget this arrangement and continues strangling our economy. For that reason, I urge the European Union, as an official EU candidate, to defend our interests and support our voice in this shameful issue. There won't be more advices for Moscow. If you don't fulfill the arrangement we taught months ago, we'll demand the expulsion of your military forces from the Sec-zone and the disbandment of your 14th Guard Army. The Republic of Moldova won't be vanquished by your aggressive rhetoric and your threatenings. |
