Yuriy SergeyevPermanent Representative to the United Nations The five seats of the United Nations Security Council elected in October 2013 will have their mandate ending on 1 January 2016. The five incumbent nations leaving their seats are Chad and Nigeria for the two African seats, Chile for the Latin America and Caribbean seat, Jordan for the Asian Arab seat, and Lithuania for the Eastern European seat. Come this October, we must elect their successors for the next wave of temporary seats on the UN Security Council. Let it be known that Ukraine will be vying for the Eastern European seat on the council, with the desires that our presence will put a supporter for UN action in Eastern Europe, the Korean Peninsula, and other regions of conflict in the world. |

Yuriy SergeyevPermanent Representative to the United Nations As it stands, the following nations are currently vying for seats to represent their region on the UNSC. The African Group will need to be filled by two nations and none have shown interest thus far. In the Asia Pacific group, which there will be only one seat available, it is currently being contested by Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic Republic of Korea. For the one Latin American and Caribbean seat, no nation of the region has expressed interest. For the Eastern European seat, Moldova and my country of Ukraine have expressed interest. Israel, who has expressed interest in a seat is ineligible as Israel belongs to the Western Europe and Others Group, whose two chairs are not up for election this year. Let it be known this is not a platform for electing the new members, as these elections will not occur until October. This session is merely a medium for those to express interest in a seat if eligible and to make supporting statements for others. Ukraine supports Japan for the Asia Pacific chair. ![]() H.E. Mr. Vlad Lupan Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations The Republic of Moldova, as a neutral nation, will not give support to an application above the others. However, we must echo the words of Mr. Sergeyev. Our two nations will compete for one seat meanwhile there are other regions without any application. Edited by Ndovlu, May 27 2014, 03:20 AM.
