Yuriy SergeyevPermanent Representative to the United Nations The five seats of the United Nations Security Council elected in October 2013 will have their mandate ending on 1 January 2016. The five incumbent nations leaving their seats are Chad and Nigeria for the two African seats, Chile for the Latin America and Caribbean seat, Jordan for the Asian Arab seat, and Lithuania for the Eastern European seat. Come this October, we must elect their successors for the next wave of temporary seats on the UN Security Council. Let it be known that Ukraine will be vying for the Eastern European seat on the council, with the desires that our presence will put a supporter for UN action in Eastern Europe, the Korean Peninsula, and other regions of conflict in the world. |

![]() H.E. Mr. Vlad Lupan Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations The Republic of Moldova doesn't think that Ukraine will be a good UNSC member due its situation. The words of his hypothetical representative may not be supported by the half of his country and, for sure, every decision taken in that chamber will affect them. For that reason, Moldova is a stable country, with more than 20 years of peace and it's neutral. We won't get involved in the diplomatic fights of the superpowers and we'll always support the voice of those who are suffering it doesn't matter if they're pro-Russian or pro-Western. Moldova will support the sending of UN peacekeepers to Syria and will defend a multi-party talks about the Lybian issue. However, as friend and ally of Ukraine, we offer Kyiv to defend our candidacy this October and we'll do the same when the UNSC changes its members again. |

Allow me to clarify. In my statement, I was trying to say that Egypt had nominated Iraq for the Asia-a Pacific seat, and that Iraq was accepting this nomination. Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations |
