Ron Prosor Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Fellow delegates, UNSC reform has long been debated in these halls, however Israel feels that now is the time for reform to come to the UNSC chamber. It is concerning that permanent membership of the UNSC has remained inactive when it comes to international crisis, currently the situation in Libya has yet to be addressed by members nor has our resolution been discussed or even passed by current members. This inaction is not only fool hearty but dangerous and shameful. The United Nations Security Council is tasked with the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states. However these tasks are bot being fulfilled by current members. Israel strongly believes that the discussion for UNSC reform must now be held, this mismanagement is one too many. |

My. Prosor do you not represent your government? The government of Israel? So when I say that you have taken every opportunity to criticize the UNSC and more recently single out the United States and China this is what I am referring to, the government which appointed you to represent it's views. We do not act as sovereign bodies in this chamber and we are called to answer for actions and statements made by our government. Please review recent statements before you accuse me of tactless antics. Let us not sling juvenile "Dont put words in my mouth" phrases, we are above that. As I can see this discussion will not be fruitful. I have stated our support for Broad reform of the UNSC, if a consensus is reached by the P5 on reform of the Veto power then my government would be open to such reforms. We fully acknowledge that members such as Japan, Germany and India has earned a place on the council as part of a larger reform, however justifying new seats by calling the P5 "waning" powers is a thinly veiled insult. I will withdraw myself from this discussion as I have made my position clear. Further discussion in this manner is beneficial to none. Edited by IrieLub, Jun 1 2014, 04:20 PM.

Ron Prosor Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Dragging up comments made by the Israeli press secretary is unhelpful and unneeded. Once again if you have a problem , contact the Government of Israel for clarification rather then ask me the Israeli delegate to clarify comments I have not made. As shown by recent American unhelpful comments, Israel will also cease discussion on reform. If the American delegation gets upset other a single word like "waning" I wonder if anything and everything in the English language is now deemed offensive. Edited by Avner, Jun 1 2014, 03:53 PM.
