Samantha Power United States Ambassador to the United Nations Ladies and Gentlemen, The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has gone unaddressed for too long. Recently the World Health Organization and this body has requested some one billion dollars to combat this devastating disease. Toward this end the United States will pledge two hundred and fifty million dollars toward this sum. Already work to has begun to bring the drug ZMAPP into full production, while the training of medical personnel to help in this outbreak is underway. But this is a massive crisis and the United States can not address it alone. Therefore I call upon the global community to rally together respond to this global threat, by contributing to fulfilling the funding needs of the WHO and the UN. |

Antonio Patriota Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations Ebola threatens us all, it is vital that we support programs to contain and develop drugs to combat this illness. Brazil will match the US contribution of two hundred and fifty million dollars to the WHO fund for combating this outbreak. I urge the rest of the international community to contribute to this, we cannot afford to let this outbreak develop unabated for much longer. |

LIU Jieyi, Permanent Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations The People's Republic of China will contribute $350 Million USD to the WHO fund for combating this outbreak. We will also make available the services of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention which will coordinate research efforts with other global partners, as well as the services of the Tianhe-1 super computer in order to help scientists better understand how Ebola works. With regards to containing the situation the People's Republic of China is considering setting up a series of mobile laboratory teams, although we would like to discuss with the United States securing a license for the domestic production of ZMAPP before the Chinese mobile laboratory teams arrive in Africa. We would also like to discuss closer coordination of research efforts of the international community with the aim of increasing the production rate of ZMAPP as well as developing a permanent Ebola vaccine with a higher success ratio. |

![]() Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Mr. Secretary General, I would like to thank Ambassador Power for bringing this most important matter to the agenda of the General Assembly. Israel will participate in the combat against Ebola. We will do so both through direct funding for UN programs and we will also cooperate with domestic pharmaceuticals companies enabling a viable production of similar products as ZMapp. That said, I can reveal that Protalix, Israeli pharmaceutical company, already has production of a similar prooduct as that of ZMapp and that production exceeds domestic needs. We therefore offer the participation of Protalix to any plan intended to eradicate Ebola from the face of the earth. |

Guillermo Rishchynski Permanent Representative for Canada to the United Nations Représentant permanent du Canada auprès des Nations Unies The Canadian government is prepared to cooperate with members of the United Nations for the distribution of ZMapp treatment in Africa. After some scientific testing, a Canadian form of the treatment has proven effective with primates infected with Ebola, seeing a recovery over several days after nearly a week of exposure to the disease. The Canadian government can begin a safety trial as soon as possible, and if proven successful on the human rate, can begin distribution by Spring of 2015. We are prepared to work with Israel and the United States regarding the production of ZMapp antibodies for their eventual distribution to the effected nations. |

Gary Quinlan Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations While this major and extremely concerning issues has seemingly fallen off the International Communities radar, something which leaves me astounded as I would have thought the International Community as a whole would want to tackle this issue together as it is a critical matter which can affect the entire globe, the Australian government was left with little choice but to suspend all travel and connections with the west African nations affected by the Ebola outbreak directly. This extreme measure to isolate west Africa from Australia was taken as a result of the International Community failing to tackle the Ebola outbreak. The Australian government could no longer sit idle waiting and hoping the rest of the world would unite and take action for humanities greater good, so measures were put in place to protect the people of Australia from the Ebola outbreak. It is with great regret that I address the General Assembly today, a year since the outbreak, and ponder why the International Community has still to take action against a threat which isn't limited to no one specific race, gender or religious faith, but is a threat to the whole of man kind. |

![]() Ständige Vertretung Deutschlands bei den Vereinten Nationen | Permanent Representative of Germany to the UN Germany is stepping its effort up with a two fold strategy firstly domestically screening people at airports and train stations in Germany. But also internationally, we are sending more aid to Western Africa. We are also given Bayer AG $50 million to find a cure for Ebola, but these things take time. We urge the rest of the world to stand up and help eradicate this disease. |

The Commonwealth of Australia recognizes the importance of the issue of Ebola as it continues to bring death and misery to the people of the region of West Africa, and is developing a plan to bolster aid committments and making deployments of personnel now that assurances regarding their access to British medical facilities in the event they get infected, have been secured. Additionally, Australia condemns the unwillingness of nations to act on this crucial matter, who have the resources, both in medical professionals and funding that the nations of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea don't have. We demand that the United Nations and the international community recommit itself to fighting the Ebola virus or it will turn into something that our children and our grandchildren will have to fight when they grow older. We must not let Ebola develop into a scourge like Polio, and more importantly, we must not turn our backs on those in West Africa who continue to need assistance and aid, as they deal with this outbreak. Representative of the Commonwealth of Australia to the United Nations Edited by Legion, Oct 25 2014, 09:34 PM.
