Samantha Power United States Ambassador to the United Nations Ladies and Gentlemen, The Ebola outbreak in West Africa has gone unaddressed for too long. Recently the World Health Organization and this body has requested some one billion dollars to combat this devastating disease. Toward this end the United States will pledge two hundred and fifty million dollars toward this sum. Already work to has begun to bring the drug ZMAPP into full production, while the training of medical personnel to help in this outbreak is underway. But this is a massive crisis and the United States can not address it alone. Therefore I call upon the global community to rally together respond to this global threat, by contributing to fulfilling the funding needs of the WHO and the UN. |

Guillermo Rishchynski Permanent Representative for Canada to the United Nations Représentant permanent du Canada auprès des Nations Unies Canada has attempted to assist with Ebola in West Africa, as we have donated 800-1000 vaccines to the World Health Organization, but have yet to see them enter West Africa for any effect at all. When we attempted to send more, we were halted by an American company. Canada has done it's part, and while we applaud Australia, United Kingdom and the Netherlands in renewed efforts to deal with the outbreak, we will not accept criticism about our efforts when we have attempted to do something. It is up to the rest of the international community and the WHO to do what is necessary, as we have tried to do the right thing with regards to Ebola. |

LIU Jieyi, Permanent Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations I share the Australian representatives frustration with the lack of leadership shown by the United States of America on this issue, and we have been waiting for several months on a response for our request of the sale of up to 100 units of Zmapp to China for the purpose of keeping Chinese mobile laboratory teams healthy and Ebola-free. My government is working on a new cure initiative, and will be contributing $350 Million to the international effort to defeat Ebola, $500 Million towards developing a cure, and $150 Million in local aid in the form of Chinese mobile laboratory teams and a undisclosed amount of humanitarian aid to the countries affected by Ebola. We will also be allocating the powerful Tianhe-1 Super Computer to assist researchers in better understanding and defeating Ebola. I would like to propose that all countries share research on the matter so that the entire world's scientific community is on the same page, and we may have the best chance of defeating Ebola once and for all. ![]() Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations Esteemed Representatives, Israel has developed its own medicine targeting Ebola and we are open for discussions regarding licensed production provided Protalix Board of Directors approve of such measure. Further we would propose also that the Representatives divert their attention to the Ebola vaccine candidate, MVA-BN Filovirus. We do promote utilizing existing vaccine candidates instead of sovereign nations focusing on developing new forms. Indeed however efforts must be escalated. |
