Greetings to the representatives of the member states of the European Union, Ebola is currently ravaging West Africa, most notably Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, all nations who can not handle the scale and intensity required of such an outbreak, and as such, requires international assistance, in terms of personnel and financial aid, to handle the virus. Many nations around the world have banded together and committed assistance to the people of West Africa so that they may cope with and contain the Ebola virus from spiraling out of control. Australia, however, has not contributed any personnel as of yet, to help all those in need in West Africa who are suffering from the virus, due to the lack of assurances that need to be guaranteed to the Australian government and the Australian people, regarding the opening of access to emergency transportation to, and medical facilities within member states of the European Union, in the event that any Australian personnel in the region contracts the Ebola virus. We need these assurances, especially from the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, or any other major EU nation, that they will take in our men and women if they manage to contract the Ebola virus, as they work selflessly for the people of West Africa. An airlift to Australia for medical treatment could take up to 30 hours, and within those 30 hours, somebody who has contracted the Ebola virus could die. This is why we ask that the member states of the European Union, entities that have advanced healthcare facilities and infrastructure, that are also much closer to the region of West Africa than Australia, consider our request and grant the Australian government an ironclad commitment that they will assist and treat any Australian personnel in their own nation in the event that they've been identified as having been infected by Ebola. This request is made in the spirit of international cooperation and our sympathy for our fellow humans, as West Africa continues to struggle to cope with Ebola, and more assistance is required. The United Kingdom will be ready to aid and assist any Australian aid worker that needs it, be it through the form of medical aid, or any other kind of aid. |

The Commonwealth of Australia thanks the United Kingdom for the assurances of medical aid to Australian personnel who will be deployed to the region of West Africa in order to cooperate with organizations and nations in the effort to counter Ebola. I would just like to say, for the public record, that in private discussion, the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has agreed to open up access to medical facilities in Gibraltar to Australian aid workers and medical personnel working in West Africa, in the event that they contract the Ebola virus.
