ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for conducting diplomacy on behalf of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Islamic Republic is dedicated to pursuing a moral and just foreign policy that promotes peace, prosperity, and security for the people of Iran and the wider international community. To that end, the MFA seeks to shape and sustain a peaceful, prosperous, and just world and foster conditions for stability and progress for the benefit of the Iranian people and people everywhere.

There are several issues of importance to Iran:

Cultivating peaceful development by maintaining Iran's political sovereignty and national rights. Iran is an independent and proud nation committed to the peaceful development of its internal economic structures and the improvement of its relations with like-minded peaceful states.

Maintaining strategic balance in order to defend the nation. Iran maintains a robust military capability dedicated to the defense of the nation and the honor of the Iranian people. FOR PUBLIC RELEASE: MFA EXPRESSES CONCERNS ABOUT STABILITY OF IRAQ

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deep concerns for the political stability and territorial integrity of Iraq. The extensive presence of extremist and separatist movements represents a grave danger to the security of the country. This problem is greatly deepened by the reckless foreign policy of several states actively promoting the dismemberment of Iraq in contradiction to well-established international principles regulating territorial integrity.

For these reasons, Iran is greatly concerned about the developing situation Iraq as the end of the calendar year approaches. Further destablizing actions by internal and external parties will be monitored with close interest in order to assess their impact on Iranian security.

Iran maintains an active interest in promoting the stability of Iraq and sustaining peaceable relations between Tehran and Baghdad. Towards this end, Iran will be evaluating its contributions to Iraqi security in order to determine the appropriate level of engagement. Iran calls upon the international community to maintain its resolve in ensuring the territorial integrity of Iraq.

FOR PUBLIC RELEASE: STATEMENT ON THE THREAT OF SANCTIONS AND CONTINUATION OF P5+1 NEGOTIATIONS

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the escalataory and unproductive threat of sanctions against it expressed by the United States of America. Although the P5+1 negotiations had made considerable progress in resolving the question of Iran's civil nuclear program in an equitable manner, the protracted non-participation by the United States led Iran to believe that the previous round of negotiations had reached an impasse.

In both public and private statements delivered to the Governments of the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the Federal Republic of Germany, Iran has made clear that it views the current impasse as temporary and is open to renewing its participation should it receive assurances from the United States that the U.S. Government will remain an interested, fair, and active partner in the process. Furthermore, given American inaction, we have also proposed to continue the negotiation process with the European Union as the primary partner in order to resolve the remaining outstanding issues. This message was delivered to the Government of Germany this month. Further, Iran has made clear that it will continue to honor the commitments made in the Interim Geneva Agreement of 2013 until such time that the next round of negotiations begins. It is our intention to complete the negotiations as quickly as possible while fairly protecting the interests of all parties involved.

As evidenced by these activities, Iran remains an honest and open partner committed to resolving the remaining issues. We are dismayed by the threatening posture of the United States Government and find such rhetoric to be detrimental for developing a solution agreeable by all parties. If the Americans are to use their absence from the negotiation as a pretext for punishing Iran, then their participation as a negotiating partner has been in bad faith. This raises questions about the credibility of the Americans, and invites skepticism about their intentions.

Should the United States, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, or any members of the United Nations Security Council engage with the Iranian government on a basis of good faith and transparent intentions, they will find Iran to be a constructive and trustworthy partner.
