With the deteriorating situation in Libya making matters worse day by day, and with its close proximity to the European Union, the United Kingdom would propose that cooperation with the internationally recognized government is sought, and if they so desire, military aid is provided in order to allow them to push back the Libyan Dawn and the newly ISIS aligned islamists. The reason why the United Kingdom would suggest such an aggressive move at this stage is that if it is let to sit for to long, the risks are that ISIS forces and foreign ISIS support starts to make its way to Libya, and as such would make it another oil-rich ISIS outpost, but one within striking distance of mainland Europe. |

Frank Walter-Steinmeier Foreign Minister We ask all countries what the number of troops they would be willing to commit to a Libyan intervention would be. We would be willing to deploy 1,000. |

The United Kingdom would not deploy troops on the ground, but rather contribute using air power and logistics. |

Paolo Gentiloni Minister of Foreign Affairs As we have no indication regarding the purpose of the deployment, the long term plan for Libya, nor what is expected to be achieved, the Italian government will not be committing any forces to Libya. We have taken measures to protect Italian and Maltese territory from the slim possibility of ballistic missile attack from Libya, and will do our best to turn back refugees attempting to cross the Mediterranean. We will provide access for emergency landings at Lampedusa to aircraft participating in operations. Afghanistan is a mess, Iraq is a mess, Libya is a mess; what is the link? Military interference with poor planning, a lack of resources, a lack of political will to drive home the objective, a lack of domestic public support all in countries rife with corruption, different values and traditions, and a sufficient proportion of the population who can't be won round. The notion that a token deployment of troops can turn what we have done to Libya around is nonsensical. Edited by Chris, Nov 14 2014, 02:28 AM.

Ambassador Sellal Pierre Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Permanent Representative to the European Union | Ambassadeur extraordinaire et plénipotentiaire Représentant permanent de l'Union européenne Unfortunately, we do not share Rome's apathy towards governments calling for help and we will not let nations crumble to terrorism because of previous failures. Afghanistan was left to the Taliban in the 90s and history has shown that it became a safe haven for terror groups operating around the world. Al-Qaeda, Chechen groups, Kashmiri factions. Since the 90s, Europe has seen terror (specifically Islamic terror factions) striking in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Sweden, England, and Spain. Because Rome has not seen a Islamic-linked terror attack on its own soil does not mean one will not happen. Paris will not allow a safe haven to be opened up in Europe's proverbial back yard while we close our eyes and hope nothing will happen. Paris will push ahead alone, if necessary. |

Frank Walter-Steinmeier Foreign Minister WE hope that all forces that can be deployed can be in an advisership or logistical role as that would be most effective given our experiences in Afghanistan and Iraq. We should let the locals fight their battles, but having troops deployed for emergency containment is of great benefit to the standing government. |
