Raul Castro on reforms and renewing economic and diplomatic relations with the world especially the United States My friends and countrymen, While we mourn the loss of our great revolutionary leader and my brother Fidel, we must look forward into the futureā¦the future of a better Cuba. The world has indeed changed since the glorious revolution against Batista. We must hold our national identity of a socialist society while at the same time keeping up with this new modern world. Certain reforms must be taken in order to maintain relation and trade with other nations. We ask other nations like the United States to be patient with these reforms. The reform process in Cuba cannot be rushed or it will lead to failure. We do not ask the United States to change its political and social system, nor do we agree to negotiate over ours. We will however make reforms and gestures that will reflect our willingness to work with the United States and form economic relations. The United States must move past their cold war sentiments and recognize that we are not a threat to them. In fact the opposite is true as their crippling embargo has lead our small nation to economic chains being shackled to us. With the removal of their harmful embargo both our nation and their can gain economically and I hope that our two nations can grow in diplomatic understanding as we move forward not backwards in history. Regarding the statement by the United States on arms deals, It is not the right of the United States to dictate how the sovereign nation of Cuba buys DEFENSIVE weapons especially seeing as the United States has repeatedly made covert or very obvious attempts to invade or in some way undermine the sovereignty of Cuba. It is clear that the United States wishes to keep asking for more concessions even when the Cuban government has made clear attempts to make our peaceful agenda known through our actions. If the United States wishes to have serious talks about the embargo on Cuba, they will first have to stop ignoring the communications that our government has sent repeatedly to the United States waiting for a reply to serious offers that could bring this conflict to a speedy end. If the United States really was so concerned about the nature of other sovereign nations buying weapons they should first take a look at all the weapons that they the United States have and all the times that their arsenal of weapons has been used against a helpless Cuba. |

The United States again act as an international bully using their power against smaller helpless nations. I call upon the international community to compel the United States to remove their troops from Sovereign Cuban soil. This is just another page in the history of tactics by the United States to break international law and ignore the United Nations in order to get what they want. The government of Cuba will no longer stand for such abuses. Either the United States consents to the International court or Cuba will have no choice, but to see the refusal as an act of war and invasion of sovereign land by the United States. The Cuban Government has no Intention of invading the United States. I would hope that the United States would seek to de-escalate this situation not make it worse. Cuba. It has been made clear through communications between the United States to Cuba and Russia that they seek a violent outcome. Cuba does not seek violence and would instead like to see a peaceful resolution to this conflict. I ask for the United States to stand down militarily so that cooler heads can prevail. |

The United States Demanded that my government release all political prisoners which my government did. It is grossly hypocritical for the United States to so arrogantly and self righteously condemn my government for human rights violations when their base on Cuban soil is used of the sole purpose of detaining and torturing prisoners of theirs. The United States has no right to condemn other nations for something they so openly do themselves. Even my government is trying to reform and get rid of that while theirs point as others and does nothing about their own human rights violations. |
