I would like to welcome my French counterpart, President François Hollande, to the United States. Our countries share a long and close relationship, and our people share a firm committment to the principles of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Together, our countries have overcome many significant challenges to these values. During the course of these talks, we will be discussing some very important and sensitive issues. First and foremost, I would like to discuss the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, and how we can resolve the final details before closing the agreeement. And then, of course, there are many security issues requiring discussion. Lastly, I think it's important that we end these talks with a joint communique highlighting our agreements. Thank you. Barack Obama President UNITED STATES OF AMERICA |

President François Hollande President of the French Republic | Président de la République française Merci, Monsieur le Président. Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is a keystone for the economic advancement of both Europe and North America. As we know, we now live in a globalized world. A slight improvement in fiber-optic trans-atlantic cables that gave an increase in telecommunications speed measured in nanoseconds saw millions in profits. This shows just how increasingly globalized economics are becoming in this day and age. Paris agrees with such a deal in principle, however the European Union needs to agree on several issues and act together, France cannot charge ahead alone but can advocate for the issue. |

I am pleased with the progress that has been made in the TTIP discussions. I believe that strengthening the common bonds which hold the American and European peoples together will not only yield a better America and a better Europe, but also a better world. The last several years have been incredibly difficult for millions of people across the globe, so it is essential that our countries reaffirm their hopes and confidence through decisive and resolute action to address these problems. Barack Obama President UNITED STATES OF AMERICA |
