Yun announced policy shift in Liancourt Rocks Dispute with Japan
Yun Byung-se Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea
In a press conference for an array of domestic and foreign journalists, Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se announced a major shift in Korea's stance toward the Liancourt Rocks dispute with the State of Japan. He announced that after lengthy consultations with the Japanese Foreign Ministry and several high-level visits, the two agreed to submit the dispute to the International Court of Justice for a binding decision. Japan has requested this several times before but the RoK previously declined to accept it, affirming Korean sovereignty over it. President Park, so convinced in Korean sovereignty over the Liancourt Rocks, has agreed to allow the case to be submitted to the ICJ for a binding decision. She is certain that the ICJ will rule in favor of the Republic of Korea. Minister Yun has declined to comment further on the case, citing ongoing talks and preparations for the case.

Kim delays military exercises
Kim Kwan-jin Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Korea
The military exercises that were intended to test the capabilities of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces in the waters and airspace around Yeonpyeongdo Island and on the island itself will be delayed by two weeks pending an offer from the government from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to thaw relations. The offer itself is not yet well known but we have strong indications that it will be worth delaying the exercises. Furthermore, per the orders of President Park Guen-hye, the exercise may be cancelled entirely if the DPRK's offer is realistic and feasible enough. The Ministry of National Defense, the military, and I fully hope for this to be the case.

Statement on the Termination of Negotiations with the North
- Quote:
-
Although recent negotiations with the tyrannical regime of the so-called "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" have proved to be fruitful with the signing of the Korean Agreement on the Yongbyon Nuclear Facility and the Kaesong Industrial Region Agreement, North Korea terminated further talks. They disguised their unwillingness to negotiate in good faith for a more secure and stable Korean peninsula as well as the general welfare of the Korean people as a perceived 'insult' from the chief RoK negotiator, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yun Byung-se, when reassuring the North's chief negotiator Vice Chairman of the National Defense Commission Vice Marshall Hwang Pyong-so brought up an unfounded concern of a potential American invasion as the sole reason for not re-signing the Korean Armistice Agreement with the Republic of Korea.
This is indicative, as has been the case in the past, of the North's refusal to negotiate in good faith for the well-being of all Koreans, not just from the RoK or the North. The North has no desire to sign a peace treaty and officially end the Korean War, re-sign the Korean Armistice Agreement as a prelude to a peace treaty, suspend or dismantle either its nuclear weapons program or its ballistic missile program, open normal diplomatic channels between it and democratic governments of the worlds, or working together with the rest of the world to provide at least some relief to the people forced to live in the North.
This scenario has showed the government of the Republic of Korea that engaging in talks and negotiations with the its northern neighbor is a futile exercise that only allows the illegal regime to survive longer and continue oppressing Koreans. Until the regime reforms or displays a sincere willingness to negotiate, this administration will not engage in further negotiations or talks with the government of the DPRK.
--- Park Guen-hye, President of the Republic of Korea

Statement on the Korean Armistice Agreement
- Quote:
-
Unless the Kim regime of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea re-signs and publicly agrees to abide by the legally-binding Korean Armistice Agreement by 2017 (January 1, 2017), the government of the Republic of Korea will consider the Korean Armistice Agreement void and will have no need to abide by the aforementioned agreement. As such, all of the articles of the Korean Armistice Agreement will be considered null and void and inter-Korean relations - the status quo - will be reverted to what it was in 1951.

Statement on the Election of Mr. Arsen Avakov as Prime Minister of Ukraine
- Quote:
-
On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Korea, I would like to extend a congratulatory hand of friendship to the newly-elected Ukrainian president, Mr. Arsen Avakov. His track record as a man who stands up for and fights for Ukraine and her interests is highly impressive and will certainly be useful in the coming months and years as he not only deals with an insurgency in the East of his country but also with economic and domestic woes. I truly hope that he sees the Republic of Korea as a partner with the best of intentions throughout his tenure as Prime Minister, however short or long it may be.

Statement on the Korean Armistice Agreement
- Quote:
-
It is of utmost importance to note that the month of January of the year 2017 is fast approaching. It is the deadline set by unanimous vote of the Cabinet of the Republic of Korea for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to re-sign the Korean Armistice Agreement or face reciprocity by the government, people, and military of its southern neighbor. I would like to remind the leaders of North Korea that re-signing the armistice, which could do absolutely no harm to their country, is the best and surest way to patch relations between our two countries and continue to work towards peace. If the North Korean leadership truly wants peace and stability, then they will sign the Korean Armistice Agreement. In the likely scenario that they don't, they won't re-sign the armistice and will face the consequences of their actions.

Invitation to the People's Republic of China to the Negotiating Table
- Quote:
-
Diplomacy is by far the most effective tool in a nation's arsenal when it comes to foreign affairs - it is far more effective than bullets, artillery shells, or even nuclear-tipped missiles. Plus, it is free while war is the most costly endeavor ever thought of by humans. As such, on behalf of the Republic of Korea and all Koreans, I invite the People's Republic of China to bilateral talks regarding several active disputes, namely the Socotra Rocks dispute and the overlapping AIDZs of our two nations. Dialogue is the cornerstone for all successful bilateral relationships, be it marriage or a supranational organization, such as the European Union or ASEAC. We expect a speedy and positive reply from our partners across the East China Sea. --- Yun Byung-se, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea[/quote[
