Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation The Russian Federation would like to inquire of both the Japanese & South Korean Governments as to the present status and administration of the Dokdo/Takeshima Islands. As you both are aware the Dokdo Islands are a disputed chain of islands administered by South Korea. However the Japanese Government has had a historic argument and claim to the islands which are referred to as the Takeshima Islands. For purposes of maritime navigation and rights of sovereignty it is the desire of the Russian Federation to understand whether or not the present status of the island changes given the recent military alliance agreement signed by both South Korea and Japan. Is the island to remain a part of South Korea meaning Japan would relinquish its claims or is it to become Japanese controlled meaning that South Korea relinquishes its claim to the islands and gives them wholly to the Japanese? Your answer will enable us to update maritime and shipping navigational charts as well as work to better understand the new relationship that is unfolding between the Republic of Korea and the Imperial Government of Japan. |

France France understands that this is and will be a bilateral matter negotiated between South Korea and Japan. Thus, we see no point on opening a discussion about a bilateral matter here in the UN. Because if that was the case, we could speak about quite a few more "disputed" zones. Edited by Sadar, May 22 2015, 01:39 PM.

Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation This is not the United Nations, this is Cysco Telepresence where a wide variety of issues are discussed. We believe it is relevant given the recent agreement achieved by South Korea and Japan specifically an alliance. In the interests of maritime shipping and further trade we believe it is important to clarify the current disposition of this disputed island whether it will remain South Korean and Japan will relinquish its claims or whether South Korea plans to hand it over to Japan and relinquish the South Korean claim to the island. |

Colin Luther Powell Secretary of State My government believes that the matter of the Liancourt Rocks dispute is one for our friends in Japan and the Republic of Korea to resolve on their own without Moscow's involvement as we have seen how unhelpful the involvement of Moscow has been in issues ranging from Syria, Ukraine, Georgia, and elsewhere. Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation Mr Powell I know that you are getting signficantly older and that sometimes in old age it is difficult to ascertain what is going on in your surroundings. But I don't believe we ever asked for the input of the United States on this matter. As you have stated this is a matter for the Republic of Korea and the Imperial Japanese government to decide and all we have asked is for them to clarify the ownership of the island and whether the recent alliance has changed ownership. Perhaps next time pay attention a bit more to what has been said here so that you do not get embarrassed as you have today. The Russian Federation simply desires to provide the most up to date information for maritime mapping used by not just Russian trade and merchant vessels but those of countries spread out across the globe. |

OOC / Oups sorry was on my phone I though it was the UN. IG / Again, this is not something that Russia should get involved in. Russia seems to enjoy interfereing in the field of territorial demands. |

While we find the USSR's concept of diplomacy to be mildly amusing, and urge them to continue their "conversation" with the Republic of France for the benefit of all, we do not wish to comment on the issue of the Liancourt rocks at this time. Rest assured, Russian shipping will not be affected, regardless of who owns these islands. Yūko Obuchi Minister of Foreign Affairs Japan Edited by Comrade Stalin, May 23 2015, 12:08 AM.

Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation With respect the Russian Federation is attempting to understand the current disposition. The question we have asked is simple. Do the Dokdo Islands remain South Korean or have the transferred to the Japanese government? |
