Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation The Russian Federation would like to inquire of both the Japanese & South Korean Governments as to the present status and administration of the Dokdo/Takeshima Islands. As you both are aware the Dokdo Islands are a disputed chain of islands administered by South Korea. However the Japanese Government has had a historic argument and claim to the islands which are referred to as the Takeshima Islands. For purposes of maritime navigation and rights of sovereignty it is the desire of the Russian Federation to understand whether or not the present status of the island changes given the recent military alliance agreement signed by both South Korea and Japan. Is the island to remain a part of South Korea meaning Japan would relinquish its claims or is it to become Japanese controlled meaning that South Korea relinquishes its claim to the islands and gives them wholly to the Japanese? Your answer will enable us to update maritime and shipping navigational charts as well as work to better understand the new relationship that is unfolding between the Republic of Korea and the Imperial Government of Japan. |

Israeli Junior Diplomat This is all merely a pathetic attempt to undermine unity between the Republic of Korea and Japan on matters regarding the situation in southeast Asia. Mr. Lavrov's has been Called and must fold his hand now, as it is a losing hand. |

Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation Our question regarding the disposition of the present islands remains, say what you will but our concerns are both valid and ones we await a proper response from the government of South Korea and Japan in regards to. |

France Mr. Lavrov, I allow myself to join again the conversation and quote mr. Obuchi's words, which guarantee that the alliance does not interfere with ships and trade. However, seing as you persist on the matter, I recommend you follow the so called Deductive reasoning process. That is, 1- What Russia knew of the islands before the alliance. 2 - What the alliance says (if it says something) about the islands. 3 - Puting that information together should allow Russia to reach a conclusion on wether new information has been added to the matter ex-ante and ex-post of the alliance. Thanks, Jean DelCourt. |

Sergey Lavrov Minister of Foreign Affairs Russian Federation Our question remains unanswered by the Japanese and South Korean delegates. France can remain as insulting and belligerent as it desires however French conduct does not answer the question we have posed which specifically deals with the present disposition of this dispute which is both a valid concern regardless of French objections, and an unresolved dispute. It is our hope that this new alliance will have resolved the dispute between South Korea and Japan and as such we ask for an answer to be provided by the Japanese and South Korean government not postulating about "Russian interference" nonsense but a simple answer regarding the present disposition of the island and its present ownership. |
