Profitability of Marijuana in the European Union

We would like to bring up a discussion of the potential profitability of marijuana and cannabis within the European Union and easing of restrictions on its use within our borders. We understand there are objections from other European Union members but we believe many of those objections are not based on fact but instead on morality and subjugation of religious ideals in policy which really have no place in the European Union at all.

In Finland we have some marijuana growth but we are hoping to develop a EU wide tax policy to generate extra revenues which can be used to fund infrastructure projects in the countries that do legalize marijuana which could really be a positive thing. Everyone already knows that marijuana has medical benefits and the Dutch actually have some of the most liberal marijuana policies in the world.

We would like to invite the Dutch to speak a bit about marijuana in their own country because really what the Dutch have done could be done across the EU as we decriminalize weed and work to tax it so we can start funding infrastructure in all those countries who are progressive enough to decriminalize it completely.

Please be realistic, the Netherlands is among the most liberal countries in the world, and marijuana is not legal in the Netherlands. It has been condoned, which is a very big differences. Aside from this the entire gedoogbeleid comes with numerous regulations and restrictions and public use is definitely not allowed. The core of the policy has little to do with the obtaining revenues or liberal believes, but it has a more practical origin. As for decriminalizing drugs, that is very difficult as most states are a member of the Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which makes it difficult to legalize drugs on a national level, this is even more difficult for countries part of a common market organization (such as the EU).
