The Netherlands, among many in the United Nations today, is very concerned about the situation between Venezuela and Guyana. While the Netherlands is not currently on the Security Council, it wishes to convey its' highest concern to the general assembly that the bickering and nonsense between these two countries must stop. The Netherlands has seen much recent aggression from South American countries, and would like to call on the general assembly for their opinions on the situation.

Brazil will not work along side Russia in any capacity. Russia has the biggest part of all to blame for the destabilization of South America but it refuses to admit it. It pushed for Brazil to invade Uruagy, then pushed Venezueal to invade Brazil and I'd be more then willing to bet that Russia is once again behind this next Venezuelan scheme. Brazil has admitted it's wrong doing now it's high time that Venezuela and Russia do the same. All Russia has done in this conversation is attempt to change the blame to Brazil rather then focusing on the fact that we have a nation that has attempted to steal land from Brazil once now preparing to do the same again but to a nation that cannot defend it's self to the same degree that Brazil could.

It is fairly clear to me that Russia is still attempting to protect the Venezuelan government even at the cost of peace in South America. Attempting to shift the blame to Brazil will not work Mr. Churkin so please maybe it's time Russia starts taking some responsibility.

I believe Russia is far too busy with the European Union and sanctions and peace in Ukraine to be destablizing South America as Brazil suggests. Russia has an accurate point in that Brazil did invade a sovereign country and seemingly got away with it with very little reprocussions after they embraced a pro western track. And ultimately the direction of foreign policy taken by Brazil is their own affair and their own concern just as the direction that Venezuela takes is theirs whether they choose to embrace an approach that seeks to resolve outstanding disputes or whether or not they are following the lead of Brazil in attacking sovereign countries as Brazil did with Uruguay.

Either way you look at the issue, what must prevail is exactly what is going on now that being dialogue. Nigeria will not support any sanctions or resolutions against Guyana or Venezuela or Brazil for that matter, what should be happening right now is substantive dialogue between Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela on their own respective issues rather than complaints to the United Nations for resolution. Resolution and appeals to the United Nations should only come when there is no other course to be followed.

When Venezuela has gone to war then we can consider a response, until then what Venezuela is doing is much better than what Brazil did to Uruguay which still remains unresolved in terms of reparations and damages paid to the people of Uruguay and the war between Brazil and Venezuela remains unresolved in the same way regarding reparations and a final settlement for damages. We encourage dialogue rather than hostile words in international bodies. Perhaps instead of seeking to punitively punish Venezuela and increase tensions by doing so, perhaps Brazil can set the example for South America by pushing for dialogue and negotiation with Venezuela instead of seeking to suspend Venezuela and isolate them. Isolation will only push Venezuela into a corner in which military action becomes a very real matter.

Brazil has time and time again attempted to open dialog with Venezuela only to be ignored. Venezuela has not intention on attempting to use diplomacy to solve it's issues it clearly only has the intention of using military might and bully tactics to get their way. Brazil will continue to push for Venezuela's suspension in the UNASUR until Venezuela makes real progress in changing it's actions.

With respect Venezuela is presently engaged in diplomacy before the International Court of Justice and unless you have information that you are willing to share that the international community is not aware of, Venezuela has not done any military actions to bully or intimidate Guyana in an effort to get their way. What Brazil does in UNASUR is its own perogative we are concerned however that the tone your country is taking is one of antagonism rather than a desire based out of sincerity to see peace reign supreme within the region particularly given that this is likely to increase tensions between Brazil and Venezuela given that there has been no final resolution to the conflict between both of your countries that came on the heels of the invasion of Uruguay.

Can Brazil perhaps provide specific evidence and transcripts of times in which it attempted to start dialogue with Venezuela? If a clear record can be presented before the international community it can help us when a resolution is needed in the event of military exchange between Venezuela and Guyana.

With all due respect to our Nigerian friends, you are de-railing the topic, and I ask that you stop immediately. This topic is about Venezuela and Guyana, and nothing else. Feel free to leave if you cannot discuss just that.

Please Mr Timmermans be diplomatic here, we can have differences of opinion without being ordered to leave the room or being accused of derailing the topic. There are many countries in the United Nations and you must be diplomatic even if you disagree! Please do not let your temper control your behavior!

We totally support the words of the Netherlands which are not deconstructive or undiplomatic at all. Nigeria called fro this discussion that could save lives in South America to be shelved because it looked like Eastern and Western blocs were just pitting arguments against eachother before going on enormous tangents which were the worst case scenarios of this possible clash. If countries cannot stay on topic, they ought to exercise their right not to speak for the good of the rest of the assembly.

As for the arguments put forward, we categorically deny that Brazil "caved into EU economic pressure" or some ridiculous conspiracy theory about Western domination in South America. What Brazil did was realize what the right path and course of action was, then they took it. The situation is clear. Venezuela is an aggressor which has attacked other countries before unprovoked. This has nothing to do with Western meddling or interference. If Guyana is their next target, the UN must do what we can to safeguard Guyana.

I don't understand how we are still talking and not voting. There was a motion to table and it was seconded. Do you need another second? Fine damn it, I second it. Venezuela has been bullied by imperialists in Brazil and the west far too long, we do not support this measure as it does not even address the brazilian invasion of uruguay.

How is Brazil imperialist? Brazil never attacked Venezuela, Venezuela attack Brazil, Brazil isn't extorting Guyana, Venezuela is extorting Guyana. What you are saying just doesn't line up.

Brazil invaded Uruguay and still has not made reparations. It would appear that Brazil is speaking out of two sides of its mouth.
