María Ángela Holguín Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores The Colombian Government will not be following in Brazilian steps in introducing a "Carbon Tax", this decision is a reversal of some prior policy. In 2012 a draft was introduced but failed to pass through the legislative body of the country and in 2014 a draft was created but it also failed to pass through the legislative body of the country. These two consecutive failures have demonstrated a lack of political will by the people to pass through a carbon tax. Further we have seen how damaging the Carbon tax implementation has been in both Chile which was done in 2013 at the expense of education and now in Brazil which has been done at the expense of healthcare. We welcome businesses adversely affected by the Carbon tax to consider relocating their businesses within Colombia where a more favorable atmosphere for business growth can be found. |
