Office of the President - Official Press Release
- President Muhammed Zia-ul-Haq - Statement on the anniversary of the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto
-
A year has passed since Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, former Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, met justice at the hands of the executioner at the Central Jail in Rawalpindi. It is a rare occasion that the execution of a head of government be a cause for celebration, but Zulfiqar's crimes against the state of Pakistan, not least of which the murder resultant in his arrest and sentence, were myriad. The Bhutto regime brought little to Pakistan other than corruption, violence, and the pervasive degradation of our traditions, our religious values, and our way of life. Zulfiqar, a committed socialist, sought to eradicate the Islamic underpinnings from which our government derives its legitimacy. A year has passed since Pakistan proved to both itself and the free world that it shall not succumb to the fear of tyrants, and in that year, devious forces plot to tear asunder the great Islamic experiment that is Pakistan, and open the door to a new wave of brutality and violence.
In January of this year, forces loyal to Zulfiqar's children and political successors staged an assault on the American embassy in Islamabad, with the assistance and sponsorship of Ayatollah Khomeni and sanctuary provided by the 'government' of Barbak Karmal. This attack was launched with the primary objective of undermining Pakistan's relationship with the United States, in an attempt to weaken our political institutions, ostensibly in preparation for further attacks. This attack resulted in several murders and the destruction of much of the American embassy, and can be called nothing less than an act of terrorism. The government of Pakistan does not negotiate with terrorists, and will not seek for peaceful remediation with al Zulfiqar. The government of Pakistan, via her faithful Armed Forces, will identify and eradicate this terrorist threat, at any cost.
At the same time, the government of Pakistan calls upon the Soviet Union, Afghanistan, and Ayatollah Khomeni, as well New Delhi, to cease any and all support and sanctuary provided to this group. Regional security is undermined by such clandestine activity, and continued support to organizations such as al Zulfiqar shall retard growth and development not only in Pakistan, but in Iran, Afghanistan, and India as well. Pakistan's greatest desire is for a peaceful subcontinent, and the further development of political, economic, and social ties across borders, towards our common development and prosperity. This prosperity cannot be achieved, however, when our neighbors and partners operate with duplicity, and towards nefarious ends.
Pakistan remains optimistic that further collaboration between regional powers can ensure a swift and just end to our conflict with al Zulfiqar, and that foreign support for the organization thusfar has been incidental rather than intentional. However, under no circumstances shall we relent in our duties to provide for the safety and security of our people, and foreign guests of our nation.

Office of the President - Official Press Release
- President Muhammed Zia-ul-Haq - Statement on the recognition of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia
-
With the conclusion of elections and the assent of a new government, which has been deemed acceptable by the government of the United Kingdom, which has granted Rhodesia-Zimbabwe independence, and in recognition of the strong role which Salisbury has always played in combating the flow of international communism, which degrades the hearts and souls of men worldwide, the government of Pakistan is pleased to announce the formal recognition of the sovereignty of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia, and our desire to establish diplomatic relations with the infant nation. Furthermore, we would urge the international community, in particular the United Nations, to join us in this recognition, and assent to the ascent of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia to full member status.

Office of the President - Official Press Release
- President Muhammed Zia-ul-Haq - Statement on Foreign Policy
- July 1981
Address given before the public at Port Malir, Karachi, on July 4th, 1981
Admiral Shariff, let me begin by thanking you for arranging this address and your kind words of introduction. Since 1946, Pakistan has stood steadfast as the defender of Islam on the Indian subcontinent, and only through the honorable service of men like you and the rest of the Pakistan Armed Forces that our country has been able to withstand the onslaught of socialism, atheism, and rejectionist extremists as levied against us time and time again. On behalf of Pakistan, I would once more like to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to you and every single member and veteran of the Pakistan Armed Forces for your patriotism and honor.
Today we join our friends in the United States in celebrating their independence, but in Pakistan, we have much more to celebrate. Since independence, Pakistan has relied on our steadfast friends in Washington, and we are happy and proud to consider the United States among our closest international collaborators. The momentous impact of the American declaration of independence, which ultimately would lead to the establishment of the liberal international order and the securement of freedom and self determinationf or millions. American blood, sweat, and death purchased the freedom of Europe from Hitler's hordes, and American blood, sweat, and death continues to protect the free people of the world from the imperialism and aggression of the Soviet Empire.
In recent months, formerly steadfast allies of the United States have taken to the criticism of American foreign policy, in specificity, the recent doctrine announced by Secretary of State Jeane Kirkpatrick which in no uncertain terms reaffirmed America's strong commitment to the security and freedom of the liberated world. Specifically, the Kirkpatrick Doctrine has fallen under attack from America's closest allies, and has been referred to as "detrimental to peace and stability." The doctrine's critics, however, ignore the reality of the global situation, remaining isolated in their remote statehouses far from the front lines of the Soviet menace. In truth, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics has engaged in a decades-long campaign of aggression throughout the developing world, most recently engaging in a viscious campaign of mass murder and genocide in Afghanistan, an ostensible first step in Moscow's goal of obtaining a port on the Indian ocean, and spreading the vile brand of Atheist subversion they mislabel as a legitimate political ideology. Canberra and Ottowa are thousands of kilometers away from this, isolated and insolated, while Islamabad sits only two hundred and fifty from this burgeoning threat, while the Soviet's vile allies in New Delhi bear down on the opposite border a mere five hundred kilometers distant.
Instead, while many of America's allies hide behind the United States military for protection, all while bickering about the procurement of military equipment which will never see combat usage, countries like Pakistan remain on the front, under imminent danger of Soviet attack. Europe's recent policy of appeasement, emulated throughout the world by nations who are moderate only in their commitment towards the stymie of Soviet aggression, has failed presently, as it always has historically, with the Soviet Union and its dastardly allies more aggressive than at any other point in modern history. Strength, and only strength, levied by the free world against the evil empire will be the only thing which halts the Soviet advance. The west must stand unitied in this endeavor; not for the sake of victory, which was secured years ago as the cancerous Soviet state whithers and dies even without external encouragement, but for the security of the West against the death throes of the most murderous and vile regime world history has ever seen. Only American military power can protect the world, including Europe, from the Soviet Union; America's allies would do well to remember this.
Pakistan, however, remains steadfast in our friendship with the United States, and applauds recent efforts on providing safety and security for all countries increasingly threatened by the Soviet menace. The United States, and only the United States, is in position to act decisively in this regard wherever it proves necessary, and those of us who benefit from the global security provided by the United States owe Washington our fullest cooperation and support. On this most important of secular American holidays, the people and government of Pakistan say to our friends, thank you, and may God bestow his mercy upon you as he has Pakistan.

Office of the President - Official Press Release
- President Muhammed Zia-ul-Haq - Statement on Foreign Policy
- October 1981
The government of Pakistan is extremely concerned by the recent leak of partial information gathered during the course of the investigation carried out following the abortive coup attempt carried out by General Tajamuul Malik Hussein last year. The government of Pakistan condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the source of the leak, which has released incomplete and misleading information to the general public, ostensibly to manipulate public opinion against the Soviet Union. Although Pakistan, in the strongest possible terms, condemns Soviet action in Afghanistan as illegitimate and genocidal, the use of this information, no doubt obtained through illegal measures, casts an unfair light on Soviet involvement, before the true extent of the uncovered conspiracy is uncovered. Although we have confirmed that Soviet citizens were involved in the coup plot, the government asserts that the investigation remains inconclusive regarding state sponsorship, and urges the people of Pakistan for calm and patience during this time.
As a result of what appears to be a conspiracy targeting the Soviet Union, I have ordered the deployment of an additional platoon from the 111th Independent Infantry Brigade, to reinforce security forces present in Islamabad's diplomatic enclave and provide backup at the Soviet embassy should it become the site of protest, or worse. Pakistan is committed to the provision of diplomatic security for all representatives within our sovereign territory, and will take every measure to ensure the safety and security of the Soviet embassy and its personnel. This includes, but is not limited to, the provision of escort personnel to all Soviet embassy staff when outside of the embassy, the establishment of additional security checkpoints, and active patrols in the woodlands immediately to the south and west of the Soviet embassy to help reduce the security threat posed by protesters, storming, or other subversion.
Regarding the investigation, the government of Pakistan will not release any details until the investigation has been completed. At this time, I believe that the results of the investigation will be ready for public release in January or February of next year. Until complete information is available, members of the general public should bear in mind that the information which was leaked was specifically released to manipulate public opinion against the Soviet Union, as part of some larger design. Once again, we condemn this subversion, and will work tirelessly to identify and mitigate its source. We offer our apologies to the Soviet Union for our poor information security, and will take active measures to prevent future leaks from swaying public opinion.
