United States Ambassador to the UN Esteemed colleagues - In light of recent and troubling events concerning the security and stability of the Persian Gulf region; and the conclusion of the Versailles peace talks - which my government commends our French counterparts for their wiliness to facilitate such talks; It has become abundantly necessary for the international community to intervene on behalf of the Iranian and Iraqi people, in particular, and for overall regional security. The United States can not accept the current course of this conflict, and my government has charged this body with organizing a cohesive, and deliberate response to the growing crisis. That said, the Versailles conference has provided this body with it's formal recommendation, and the United States feel that all avenues toward peace should be considered. I, thus, propose the following Resolution for the purpose of consideration, and discussion.

United States Ambassador to the UN As we await confirmation of the final vote count, I'd like to once again recognize the drafter of this final draft resolution - and commend my colleague, the Ambassador of the German Democratic Republic, and voice the appreciation of my government for his engagement in this discussion. |
