Mustafa Khalil Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt Considering the ongoing discussions in various panels of this organization, the government of Egypt would like to propose a compromise text of the resolution previously drafted by the Government of Iraq. We aim to pursue a neutral and even handed approach on this matter and hope that the contributions of all states will adhere to these principles.

Ali Akbar Velayati Minister of Foreign Affairs Islamic Republic of Iran Iran continues to remain steadfast that unless a condemnation of Iraqi use of chemical weapons is made, no condemnation should be made at all. We have reiterated this point repeatedly: without unambiguous specification, the wording of the resolution implies both parties can be responsible for the use of weapons of mass destruction. This is unacceptable to Iran as the victim of chemical weapons attacks. Accordingly, we propose an amended resolution which removes the problematic phraseology, and amends the last point to specify the humanitarian crisis in Iran specifically because of the purposeful flooding and subsequent resumption of combat operations by Iraq.

Sa'dun Hammadi Minister of Foreign Affairs We fully endorse the Egyptian resolution and find the Iranian resolution utterly and totally unacceptable, biased, and one sided. We call for a vote on the Egyptian resolution, as we have all debated this topic so far ad nauseum. |

Mustafa Khalil Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt We would like to give other members a little bit more time to discuss the draft resolution and leave room for some improvements, should that be necessary. |

Ali Akbar Velayati Minister of Foreign Affairs Islamic Republic of Iran We do not accept the Egyptian resolution as presented. We reiterate our position that if our amended resolution is not accepted, given its clear unbias nature and avoidance of the chemical weapons question, that we demand that this body pass no resolution at all over the current conflict. We would also like to point out that the nature of this organization requires substantial agreement to the passage of any resolution, an that its underpinnings are meant to enhance solidarity and unity. We can find no greater destruction of values of this organization if a resolution is passed regarding a certain country despite its explicit opposition to such a resolution. Thus we call on all resolutions on the Gulf War to be tabled, and the matter noted as unsolved due to irreconcilable differences of member states. Edited by Eryk, Jun 14 2016, 10:40 AM.
