The Press and Information Office, also known as the Federal Press Office (BPA), is an information hub that serves the needs of the general public, the media, and the government. The Press and Information Office fulfills two key functions: it supplies information to the public on the work being done by the government and it supplies information to the government so that the latter can do its work well. The Press Office informs the media and the general public of measures taken, laws passed, as well as policies formulated by the government and it also provides background information on these matters.

____________________Press releaseSubject: British EU referendumSeptember 15th, 2013 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Berlin has taken note of the outcome of the British referendum on its membership to the European Union. Berlin reiterates its believe that it would like to see a strong United Kingdom within the European Union, but that this will not be possible at all cost. The United Kingdom and Germany are both net contributors, and share many common interests, however Berlin believes that the British referendum on its future within the European Union was too soon and ill-thought out. Berlin is willing to discuss the matter within the European Union and with all its European partners, as the change to the British status will have to be approved by all member states. Berlin calls upon London for transparent and constructive talks within the chambers of the European Union on the topic, and invites the British representatives to commence with these talks as soon as possible.

____________________Press releaseSubject: Attack on Iranian nuclear engineerOctober 13th, 2013 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ It is with abomination that Berlin has taken note of the attack against an Iranian nuclear engineer. Berlin hopes that the attack will not endanger the progress made at the latest talks, and condemns the unprovoked act of aggression against an Iranian civilian. We urge Tehran to not let this attack endanger the progress made during the current P5+1 summit and we call upon the other partners to condemn this attack. While Germany and Iran have had their differences on a variety of matters, we cannot condone this type of actions, as they endanger the delicate progress that has been made.

____________________Press releaseSubject: Death of President al-AssadOctober 24th, 2013 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Germany yesterday received the news of the death of President Bashar al-Assad. While Berlin and President al-Assad were not on the same page when it came to a long list of matters, the death of Mr. al-Assad comes at a difficult moment. We hope that the death of Mr. Assad will not drag Syria even further into its own internal conflict. Berlin expresses its hope that due to the death of al-Assad the Syrian government and Syrian opposition, under the guidance of the Syrian National Coalition, will undertake renewed attempts to come to an agreement and end the conflict as soon as possible.
