Turkey's stance on the Syrian situation is clear - we recognize the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) as the sole legitimate representative of Syria, we want an end to the fighting, and we're willing to accept a reconciliation council composed of both SNC and pro-Assad supporters, as long as ex-President Assad is not part of that council and is not in a position of power. We call on our NATO allies who are still on the fence to clarify their views on Syria and to help us take action to end this crisis. Many nations here have declared that they view the SNC as the legitimate representative of Syria, but beyond that have taken little action. Every day we fail to act, is a day that more lives are ended and more families torn apart. To be clear, Turkey is not advocating for NATO military intervention in Syria. However, our nations must make a concerted effort in the United Nations and through other international channels to get the world to work together to resolve the Syrian situation. One action would be a resolution that passes the UNSC and preferably includes UN peacekeepers to enforce a ceasefire. Also, through private communications with China and Russia, we must bring them around to put pressure on Assad to step down or to convince his subordinates to turn on him. A note of concern for Turkey's government is that in private talks with the Russian government (OOC: in-game), possible Russian military invention in the conflict to prop up Assad's government along with the potential announcement of a Russian mutual defense pact with Syria were mentioned. While the Turkish government is not sure how much truth were in these statements versus simple rhetoric, the fact is that we need to wake up and deal with this situation before it possibly takes a turn for the worst. |

![]() Ambassador to the NATO _____ Any French contribution to accompany Carrier Strike Group Two will be gladly welcomed. We would like to request the French to provide us with forces that are mainly focused upon performing ASW tasks. According to US intelligence Russian submarine forces have been dispatched to the Mediterranean. |

Turkey would like to coordinate operations between our land-based air forces and the deployed naval and carrier aviation units of NATO. We thank our NATO partners for their assistance and show of solidarity in this matter. As a general note, we would like to request additional anti-air defenses to be deployed (or sold to Turkey) given our increased concerns now that Russia has become involved with this conflict. |

![]() Ambassador to the NATO _____ First I would like to thank the French for their assistance provided to the US naval flotilla that is in the area. Besides this the US can state that it will dispatch additional SAM systems to the Turkish border with Syria. I hope that such would ease the concerns of the Turkish government. On a side not the US also would like to state that it has received intelligence that Syria requested more troops from both Russia and Iran and the first information reveals that Moscow has reacted positively towards such. According to our sources in the field the operations will also focus upon opposition territories in the South. If we start working on providing assistance to the opposition, it would be highly advisable to increase our deliveries to the south, while the opposition forces in the North will be provided with munitions and supplies for operations there. |

Dame Alison Mariot Leslie,Permanent Representative to NATO. - - - - We have also received similar intelligence to that which Mr. Daalder has mentioned. Our assets on the ground tell us that the Russians and the Iranians are likely to help the Assad regime disarm the populace, and arrest anyone who refuses to disarm. Regardless of the rights and wrongs of private gun ownership, this is a move which can only strengthen the Assad regime and further the liberation of the Syrian people. The Prime Minister has also authorised me to offer any support the American and French flotilla require. If there is still a need to deploy additional ASW vessels, then we can deploy Type-23 frigates or anything else which may be required. If the Turkish government is willing, the United Kingdom could sell you rapier or aster missiles as well as Alvis Stormer vehicles with starstreak missiles. We're also very interested in the possibility of NATO countries signing MDP with the SNC, that specifically state our intention to defend SNC territory from international forces. This could force the Russians to be less proactive, to remain a logistical ally as opposed to a combatant. Thoughts? Edited by PolishPrince, Feb 3 2013, 06:24 AM.

![]() Ambassador to the NATO _____ Washington will not even consider the signing of a defense agreement with the Syrian National Coalition, as such will only further deteriorate the situation. The solution to the entire conflict lies in closer cooperation with our regional partners. Washington therefore suggest that we start looking towards more coordinated assistance to these nations and the SNC. British assistance to the flotilla will be more than welcome. We would like to request additional submarine forces, and possibly some mine-sweeping capabilities. Although it is unlikely that naval mines will be deployed or utilized by the Syrian regime, or its supporters, the flotilla currently lacks any capabilities in that area and could need utilize such. I would also like to request Turkey to open up its ports, in order to provide the flotilla with access to shorten and simplify the logistical supply train. |

Dame Alison Mariot Leslie,Permanent Representative to NATO. - - - - The deployment of minehunters may be unnecessary, but the United Kingdom shall oblige our friends in Washington. It is, as the saying goes, better to have and not to need, than to need and not have. We shall immediately dispatch the following mine clearing ships: 2x Sandown class mine hunters 1x Hunt Class mine sweeper We shall also deploy two submarines to join your flotilla. HMS Astute, our most advanced nuclear powered submarine and HMS Triumph. All vessels should be on station in the coming days. I |

Dame Alison Mariot Leslie,Permanent Representative to NATO. - - - - We have received credible intelligence which states that Iran is smuggling weapons into Syria, for the Assad regime, by using false papers and misinformation. We are unsure how to proceed and would like guidance from our NATO allies. |

![]() Ambassador to the NATO _____ Washington can confirm the validity of the intelligence as stated by the British representative. We however urge London to not reveal said information, while also refraining from undertaking any action at the moment. We shall first have to contact the Egyptian government and provide them with the information. Cairo can than undertake more appropriate action and issue more thorough searches of Iranian vessels. Once weaponry or munitions are found during such a search, the Iranian will be embarrassed and will have to acknowledge their actions to the international community. In that process we will be able to further isolate both Syria and Iran, while strengthening the position of the Syrian opposition. |

Turkish Representative to NATO Of course, our ports are open to our NATO allies. Russia's involvement in this conflict requires us to respond more than just moving our forces to the region. We must provide more support for the SNC in the face of the dire situation that the Russian's active military operations poses. Turkish intelligence has reported that the Tawhid Brigade in Syria has become a viable, coherent military unit. We should immediately send additional arms and supplies to support them and the other freedom fighters within Syria. |

![]() Ambassador to the NATO _____ Washington can confirm the validity of the intelligence provided by out Turkish allies. US officials have also submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). We urge all member states to address and support said issue, as it would provide the NATO task force of the coast of Syria with a mandate to stop and search all vessels heading to and coming from Syrian territorial waters. That way we can ensure that Russia will be unable to ship in large supplies through the sea. Washington also supports any assistance being provided to the Tawhid Brigade, but also calls for restraint. If the UNGA resolution were to be approved by the UNGA, we will have a powerful tool in hands to contain the current crisis, that can severely strengthen our cause and enable us to rid the Syrian people of Assad' regime. |
