Multirole destroyer with strong land attack focus, combined with AAW and some ASW capabilities. Designed to be AAW escort and land attack platform with carrier or amphibious battle groups.

Modified for length as discussed below. Further adjustments has been made to dimensions. They are now similar, to within decimeters, of the KDX-III dimensions, including displacement. Complement increased as per recommendation.

You could actually enlarge ships fairly easily by simply adding a few more frames to the design. I'm not sure if the Horizon is a stealthy or simply reduced signature ship though, which may be a complicating factor. In general though it's easier, cheaper, and faster to enlarge modular vehicles such as ships, airliners, and rockets rather than develop totally new designs.

This is actually true for vessel build according to commercial standards. For Military standard vessels it will become somewhat harder already, and seeing the various stealthy elements the Horizon has, it will be even harder.
