Permanent Representative to the United Nations India would like to make its candidacy known for the Asia-Pacific seat. For years we have remained an upstanding member of the international community, showing willingness to contribute to all manners of humanitarian initiatives the UN has supported. Our country is the third largest contributor to United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, we are the worlds largest democracy by several orders of magnitude, and the last time we were nominated for a NPM position our nation received 187 out of 190 total votes from this body. It is with great pride that I can tell you unequivocally that India is the obvious choice for the Asia-Pacific seat. I would also like to note the added legitimacy to the Security Council's decisions having India as a NPM brings to the council. India is a rising power with over one billion of the worlds people, our military is modernizing, our security obligations are rapidly approaching that of any nation on the P5, and having our seal of approval makes the body much harder for the skeptical world to denigrate the council's veto as an unjust privilege. We have also made no secret of our desire for a permanent seat and broad UNSC reform that gives India a permanent seat on the council. How this would look in practice would need to be debated, but we see no reason for India not to sit alongside the powers of the world while we wait for the world to further come around, I say this since we've had voiced support for our bid from large segments of the world including all five permanent members, to the idea of necessary reforms. |

Brazil would like to present its candidacy for the Latin America and Caribbean seat. Brazil is a founding member of the United Nations and participates in all of its specialized agencies. Brazil is the tenth largest contributor to the United Nations regular budget. Brazil has a long tradition of contributing to peacekeeping operations, is among the twenty top contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations and has participated in peacekeeping efforts in the Middle East, the former Belgian Congo, Cyprus, Mozambique, Angola, and more recently East Timor and has lead the military component the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in Haiti since its establishment in 2004. Brazil also leads the Maritime Task Force of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon since 2011. Brazil is an emerging power, it is the largest nation in Latin America and the Caribbean in area and population and it is the largest economy as well. Our nation's levels have improved greatly in all areas in the last 2 decades and we are getting close to the levels of the major world powers. Our military is also undergoing an extensive modernization program to match our nation's growth in all other areas and also to allow us, as the major power in Latin America and the Caribbean, to fulfill our security obligations in the area. As the leading political, economical and military power in Latin America and the Caribbean we have also the goal of being granted a permanent seat in the UNSC as representatives of region. Brazilian neutral foreign policy stance has generally reflected multilateralism, resolving disputes peacefully and non-intervention in the affairs of other countries, so we will be a balanced voice of reason in the Security Council. The Brazilian Constitution determines that the country shall seek an economic, political, social and cultural ties with the nations of Latin America so we will come forward not only as the nation of Brazil but as a voice to protect and advocate the interests and stances of all the Latin America and the Caribbean nations. |
