Welcome to the grand opening of the Clearwater Zoo and Aquarium! Before our tour, let's begin with some background information. Construction on Clearwater began earlier this year and is the first zoo to be owned/operated by the Morgan Organization of Zoos (besides the failed attempt at the Addison Zoological Park). The zoo is located in Clearwater, Florida, and due to the climate, is home to many tropical species. Currently, Clearwater is home to 13 species, ranging from tortoises to flamingos to kangaroos. The zoo's biggest attraction is the small Reptile House (teasers can be seen in the MOZ topic page), which is home to reptiles from around the world. So, let's begin the tour! We start at the entrance: a simple arch with ticket booths. Already we can see some of the tropical foliage and a few exhibits inside the zoo. ![]() ![]() As we pass through the entrance, we spot the first exhibit! ![]() ![]() This exhibit is home to Hermann's Tortoise! The zoo is currently home to six tortoises: two males and four females (one of which is suspected to lay eggs soon). ![]() ![]() A close up of one of our tortoises: ![]() That's all for today! In the next update we'll venture down the zoo's Discovery Trail, where we'll find kangaroos, alligators, and much more! A like and a comment are much appreciated! Welcome back to the Clearwater Zoo and Aquarium, where we'll be viewing the first few exhibits on the Discovery Trail! We start where we left off, by the tortoise exhibit, and turn to find the entrance to the Discovery Trail: ![]() As we draw nearer to the first exhibit, we catch a glimpse of large birds on the ground. ![]() This is the zoo's Australian Outback Exhibit! This exhibit is home to a pair of female emus, and three red kangaroo (one male and two female)! ![]() ![]() It looks like all the animals have moved into their offshow exhibit. Let's take a look! ![]() Back on the trail, we turn around and notice two adjacent aviaries. In the first exhibit we notice a male kookaburra, and in the second we find a pair of lyrebirds: ![]() ![]() ![]() That's all for today! Next time, we continue down the Discovery Trail! |
