Becoming unsettled. Rain spreading to the south.

There is a heat alert across the SE of Europe at the moment with temperatures approaching 40C in parts of Greece and Turkey. Northern Europe is quite a lot cooler, and it will becoming unsettled to end the week and start the weekend over southern Britain with some rain and heavy showers.

Rain will begin to spread across the SW on Thursday as low pressure slides past southern Ireland. Some heavy rain in the afternoon moving from Cornwall to Devon and Dorset, and up across the far south of Wales. Fine though for central and eastern England. More cloud over northern England and southern Scotland with some light rain, but the far north clearer and mostly sunny. Temperatures 22C in the south but a cool 14C in eastern Scotland.

By Friday we may see some heavy downpours and thunderstorms across England and Wales. Perhaps the heaviest rain from North Wales to the northern Midlands and East Anglia with up to 20mm giving local flooding. Glastonbury at risk from some heavy showers, but Wimbledon may be lucky and just catch a few, becoming fine for the late afternoon and evening. To the north much of Scotland will be dry with sunshine in the west and cool, cloudy weather over the east. Temperatures low 20s in the SE, but a chilly 13C for eastern Scotland.

Weekend Outlook

More heavy showers over the south on Saturday with the risk of thunder. Glastonbury could see some heavy downpours with perhaps 10mm of rainfall. Wimbledon may fair better and see few showers. Cooler and dry across northern Britain. Temperatures 19 to 20C in the south and the mid teens over the north.

By Sunday it will feel cooler and fresher in the south too in a northerly flow all the way from beyond the Arctic Circle. Scattered showers for Wales and northern England, but mainly fine and bright for the south of England, and across much of Scotland. Glastonbury could just catch a light passing shower while Wimbledon remains dry. Temperatures 18 to 19C in the south and chilly 13C in the NE.
