Wet weather ahead for Europe
Hot in the east

An active cold front will spread across France during Sunday and Monday, bringing a spell of heavy thundery rain. Early next week an upper cold pool breaks off the upper trough which is currently north-west of the UK and allows an area of surface low pressure to form across the continent.

Current model indications show an area of heavy rain affecting eastern areas of France, across the Alps and much of Germany by midweek. Over 50mm is predicted over a wide area, whilst some parts are forecast to receive over 100mm, which will raise concerns for flash flooding.

The system is also interacting with some very warm moist air over eastern Europe, thanks to a southerly airflow here. Daytime highs are expected to widely reach 30C over the next few days.

There is some disagreement about the setup by the end of the week from the various main computer models. Some model runs have tried to push the system back west toward the east of the UK by late Wednesday and into Thursday.

By the end of this week a generally mixed or unsettled theme is still the likely outcome for the UK, with low pressure to the north-west and low pressure also over Europe.

Either way, this will need watching over the next few days to see how our pattern develops.
