Monday 28 July

A changeable week ahead

Changeable weather this week but with a general progression towards unsettled conditions
Often dry across more southern areas of the UK until later in the week
Northern and western areas of the UK often unsettled with rain or showers at times, some heavy, especially later in the week
Temperatures generally nearer average compared with of late and locally quite cool further north and west.
A particularly unsettled end to the week and opening few days of August is currently expected.

Monday

Some locally heavy and thundery downpours across the SE of England this morning, but these gradually dying away with time. Many other areas of the UK are then expected to have a mainly dry day with some bright or sunny spells at times. Cloud may increase from the west, across Ireland, with some outbreaks of rain developing here, but on the whole a dry, bright and pleasantly warm day for most.
Tuesday and Wednesday

Weather fronts move into more northern and western areas of the UK towards the middle of the week. These will bring outbreaks of rain or showers, at times, to Scotland, Ireland and N England, but without producing any heavy or widespread rainfall. For many central and southern areas of England and Wales a generally dry theme will continue with some bright or sunny spells and it will remain pleasantly warm here too.
Thursday and Friday

During the end of the week a progression towards more widespread unsettled conditions is currently expected. Low pressure will become an increasingly dominant feature of the weather nationwide with outbreaks of rain or showers developing and moving across many areas, especially during Friday. Some heavy rain is possible across more northern and western areas of the UK in particular and these unsettled conditions will then continue into next weekend as well across many areas.
Potential severe weather and temperature

Some locally severe weather is possible across SE England for a time today (Monday) due to some locally heavy and thundery showers. Otherwise no severe weather is expected in the coming days.

Temperatures this coming week will generally be much nearer to average than compared with the very warm and hot weather of last week. Temperatures ranging between 18C and 22C generally across many areas, though locally up to 24C or 25C in the south-east at times. Equally temperatures may only struggle to 16C or 17C across some northern and western areas of the UK later in the week in association with the increasingly unsettled conditions.
