Europe toils as heavy rain causes flooding After summer storms brought flooding to parts of southern England, many European countries have been hit by floods, with a number of deaths reported. ![]() A colapsed house in Vaideeni village is seen on July 30, 2014. One person died and four others are missing after floods hit a dozen departments especially in the south of Romania, announced Interior Minister Gabriel Oprea. (Daniel Mihailescu/Getty Images) Earlier in the week, France, Belgium and Germany were hit by violent storms, causing flash floods and, according to euronews, claiming the lives of three German citizens. Euronews also said that in the Belgian town of Ittre in Walloon-Brabant, flood waters left cars stacked on top of each other and 400 residents were evacuated from the area. More recently, countries in eastern Europe have been affected by torrential downpours. Two deaths were reported in Romania after the Gilort river burst its banks, destroying bridges and washing away dikes. A passenger train was also derailed after a bridge collapsed, according to Globalnews.ca. The Zadar Islands in Croatia were also severely hit and the central region of Bulgaria saw one person die amid rising flood waters. Source... uk.weather.com |
