Friday 1 August

Very unsettled weekend.

Friday

Increasingly unsettled conditions will develop throughout the remainder of Friday as outbreaks of rain and showers progress north and east across many areas of the UK. Some drier and brighter weather is possible across east and south-eastern areas of England for a time, but some heavy and perhaps thundery showers may develop here later in the day. Some of the heaviest rainfall through the remainder of Friday is expected across SW England, Wales and N England with perhaps over 20mm of rainfall.

Saturday

A developing area of low pressure is expected to move northwards across many areas of the UK throughout the course of the day and produce a particularly unsettled spell of weather for the time of year. Some very heavy rainfall is expected across SW England and Wales to start the day and this region of heavy rainfall will then continue to move northwards. The regions highlighted, by the end of Saturday, are at risk of seeing over 30mm to 40mm of rainfall which may lead to some localised flooding or possible travel disruption in places.
Sunday

During Sunday the area of low pressure will become slow moving over Scotland and this will bring a risk of further heavy rainfall and showers to more northern areas of the UK in particular with a further 20mm to 30mm of rainfall in places. As a result, by the end of the weekend, some northern areas of the UK may well see in excess of 60mm of rainfall and this will bring a risk of some localised flooding in places. Also of significance will be the development of some strong winds for the time of year across parts of Scotland, N Ireland and N England during Sunday with wind gusts in excess of 40mph possible. Heavy rain and strong winds will create a particularly inclement day and it will also feel quite cool too. Drier and brighter conditions will, however, begin to develop across more central and southern areas of England during Sunday so a mainly dry end to the weekend is expected here.
