Bertha continues to bother
Ex-hurricane has a big impact on August

As we await the arrival of ex-hurricane Bertha models continue to struggle with the where, when and how's of her arrival.

The chart below (for a larger version see here ... http://www.weatherweb.net/temppics/20140805comparison.jpg) is from Meteocentre.com and shows a comparison of four models for Monday 11th August.

You can see how there is an agreement of sorts that a trough at upper levels engages the surface low, and that the low then deepens significantly. However, what then happens to the remains of Bertha is where we run into problems.
But why so much uncertainty? It's down to the individual models and how the mathematics within them are tuned to meteorological features and geographical regions.

It is still hard to decide what impact Bertha may have, and it's likely to be another day yet before we get a clearer picture. For mow, work on the idea of things turning more unsettled, windy and possible wet by the end of the weekend and early next week.

But all that could change!
