UK daily outlook - 5th August .![]() Thursday 7th will see a weak ridge of high pressure building in from the south-west. It won't be enough to ensure a dry day, with a scattering of light showers still expected to develop - but many areas will remain dry with some strong sunshine at times in the fresh Atlantic air. ![]() On Friday 8th, an active wave low will spread heavy rain in across south-eastern England in particular. As one area clears to the North Sea in the morning, another area may move in from northern France later in the day. Sunny spells and a few scattered showers are expected elsewhere, although a weak cold front will bring some light and patchy rain into western Ireland and western Scotland as the day progresses. ![]() Saturday 9th will see sunny spells quite widely, more especially across eastern Britain. A few showers may affect western coastal counties, while an occluded front will bring some light rain to western and north-western parts of both Scotland and Ireland. ![]() Confidence falls significantly on Sunday 10th, as ex-hurricane Bertha moves in from the Atlantic. One scenario has it sweeping up the English Channel to be centred over London at midday, with widespread heavy rain and the threat of flooding across southern Britain. It'll be windy - but not excessively so. Lighter rain associated with a weak cold front will affect parts of Ireland and western Scotland. However another scenario sees Bertha move to north-western parts of the British Isles, with windy conditions (but again, not excessively so) being more widespread; heavy rain will be more widespread too, particularly across western and northern areas. ![]() Despite the mixed conditions, maximum temperatures will be near normal and fairly consistent through the week - highs will be in the upper teens to low 20s in most areas but may occasionally reach the mid 20s in parts of the south-east when sunshine is prolonged. Keep up-to-date with the latest forecasts to see how things may change! Source .................. http://uk.weather.com/ |
