UK daily outlook - 8th to 10th August.

On Friday 8th, an active wave low will spread heavy and quite persistent rain in across southern and south-eastern England in particular. Sunny spells and a few scattered showers are expected elsewhere, except for western Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland where a trough will result in some heavy and showery rain - some of the bursts may be thundery.

Saturday 9th will see sunny spells quite widely, more especially across eastern Britain. A few showers may affect western coastal counties, while an occluded front will bring some rain to western and north-western parts of both Scotland and Ireland.

Confidence falls significantly on Sunday 10th, as ex-hurricane Bertha moves in from the Atlantic. A number of different tracks remain possible, with the one above taking Bertha along the English Channel to the Netherlands by lunch-time. On this scenario, heavy rain will be restricted to southern and south-eastern England, while farther north and west a scattering of sunny spells and showers associated with troughs are expected. These showery conditions will also move in quite quickly across southern and south-eastern England, once the more persistent rain clears away by the end of the morning.

This is, as stated, only one scenario. Other possible paths include from south-western to north-eastern England, while another is from southern Ireland to central Scotland. Both these scenarios have windier (although not excessive) conditions but more specifically heavy rain is more likely quite widely. Flooding could be particularly possible over parts of Ireland, northern Ireland and western Scotland, possibly also for north-western England and Wales.

Despite the mixed conditions, maximum temperatures will be near normal and fairly consistent through the week - highs will be in the upper teens to low 20s in most areas but may occasionally reach the mid 20s in parts of the south-east when sunshine is prolonged.
