UK daily outlook - 8th to 10th August.

On Friday 8th, generally unsettled with a mixture of sunny spells and rain showers associated with low pressure and a trough to the west with more organised precipitation. Low pressure will move north-eastward across southern and south-eastern England during the course of the morning before moving across East Anglia. They could be heavy and thundery at times.

Saturday 9th will experience sunny weather in a weak ridge of high pressure and rain showers in the west in the general onshore westerly wind. The showers will be widespread over Ireland with rain mainly for NW Scotland in an occluded front and nearby low pressure centre.

During Sunday 10th there is still uncertainty as to the path ex-hurricane Bertha is going to take. At present a track across the Channel and southern England to north of the Netherlands by the afternoon is favoured, although it could pass further north across the British Isles. In any event it is expected to be accompanied by windy conditions, though NOT exceptional. The greater threat is expected to be persistent and widespread moderate to heavy rain across southern and south-eastern England, which will largely clear away to the east by the end of the morning and be followed by more isolated showers. Farther north and west scattered rain showers and sunny spells associated with troughs are expected. These showery conditions will also move quite quickly eastward.

Another model scenario is that the path of the low could run from southern Ireland to north-eastern England, or central Scotland. In which case it could be windier (although not excessively so), but more heavy rain is likely quite widespread.
