Friday 8 August.

Low pressure dominates

A persistent risk of rain or showers throughout the coming few days across many areas
Risk of some heavy and perhaps thundery downpours today (Friday) across some central and northern areas
Sunshine and showers for many on Saturday, but with some lengthy drier and brighter intervals
Risk of wet and windy weather developing across England and Wales on Sunday
Temperatures generally near or slightly below average particularly so in any persistent rain or showers

Friday

A general mixture of sunshine and showers is to be expected through the remainder of Friday with the risk of some heavy and perhaps thundery downpours being focused across S Scotland, N England and into the Midlands this afternoon and evening. Some locally severe weather may be possible due to slow moving downpours with a subsequent risk of some temporary, localised flooding.

Elsewhere more persistent rain may affect the south-east of England for a time, and showers and longer spells of rain are possible across Scotland and Ireland.
Saturday

Saturday is expected to be the better day of the weekend with most areas seeing a mixture of sunshine and showers.

The showers are forecast to be most frequent and heaviest across northern and western areas of the country, whilst further south and east generally drier and brighter intervals at to be expected.
Sunday

Sunday sees the remnants of hurricane Bertha approach and then move across some parts of the UK. There are still uncertainties over the actual track but it would seem that England and Wales are at primary risk of a wet and windy day for the time of year.

Longer spells of heavy rain may bring over 40mm of rainfall in some places with a risk of localised flooding and then, particularly across coastal areas of Wales, SW England and S England, strong or gale force winds may develop, which will be particularly noteworthy given the time of year.

For Scotland and Ireland Sunday is expected to provide a mixture of sunshine and showers, with some drier and brighter conditions in-between.
Potential Severe weather and temperatures

Localised downpours today for some areas of England, especially N England with perhaps localised flooding.

A combination of heavy rain and strong or perhaps gale force winds for some southern areas of England on Sunday may bring severe weather here too.

Temperatures in the coming days ranging between 18C and 22C generally, though temperatures struggling to just 16C or 17C at times in any persistent wet weather, but it will feel pleasantly warm in any sunshine on Saturday.
