UK daily outlook - 9th to 11th August.![]() During Saturday a westerly air flow between low pressure in the north and high pressure to the south will bring a mixture of sunshine and rain showers, the rain showers mainly in the west in the onshore flow, drier toward the east where sunny and remaining dry over south-eastern and eastern England. ![]() For a while there was improved confidence in the weather forecast for Sunday due to better agreement between the various model with respect to the the track of the low pressure cell that was ex-tropical hurricane Bertha. The different predicted tracks are shown in the figure below. ![]() At present the favoured track is that the low will move north-eastward across SW England and Wales to NE England bringing widespread and persistent rain with heavy falls in places and isolated embedded thunderstorms. It will bring some notably windy (though NOT exceptional) conditions across the British Isles. The greater threat is expected to be persistent and widespread moderate to heavy rain with temporary local flooding. Winds will be fresh to strong and gusty along western coasts near to the centre of the low, in particular SW England and SW Wales. The path of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to be from SW England, Wales and SE Ireland north-eastward across central England and Scotland. ![]() Into next working week low pressure cells are expected to dominate with unsettled weather and bouts of rain showers, some thundery and windier than of late. Temperatures are also expected to be normal to slightly below normal and down to 2C below normal in places. In particular Monday and Tuesday are expected to be windy, windier than Sunday due to a marked westerly to north-westerly air flow, with moderate to fresh winds and strong at times along the west coast of Ireland and the England SW coast. The circulation for Monday is shown below with cloudier, wetter and windier weather in the west, sunnier, drier and less windy in the east. ![]() Source .......................... http://uk.weather.com/ |
