Weekend Weather - fine Saturday, showery Sunday

Dry for many on Saturday. Cool, windy and showery on Sunday.

After ex-hurricane Bertha swept across the UK last weekend, much of the UK has had a cool and showery week.

Most of us will be hoping for some drier and warmer weather this weekend, but although Saturday looks fairly dry for most, the cool, breezy and showery conditions will return on Sunday.

It will also be rather chilly at night, particularly Friday night with temperatures widely dipping into single figures away from town and city centres.

Friday

Friday looks like being a drier day for many with spells of sunshine and fewer showers, although Scotland and Northern Ireland could well see a fair amount of cloud. An area of locally heavy showers will develop into the afternoon across an area stretching from the south Pennines, through the East Midlands and into East Anglia and south-east England.

Staying cool for mid-August with temperatures generally in the mid to high teens Celsius, but it will feel a touch warmer with generally lighter winds and fewer showers.

A chilly start to the day on Saturday, particularly across southern and central areas, but there will be plenty of sunshine across England, Wales and eastern Scotland.

Cloud will soon increase across western Scotland and Northern Ireland with showery rain spilling down from the north-west. It should stay largely dry across the rest of the UK with spells of sunshine, but cloud amounts will tend to increase through the day with a few showers likely to get into eastern Scotland and north-west England later.

Temperatures once again fairly disappointing with highs generally of 17-20C across England and Wales. Cooler in Scotland and Northern Ireland, particularly as there will be a strengthening westerly wind.

Sunday

A windy and cool day for many with sunny spells and showers. Most of the showers will be across Scotland, Northern Ireland and north-west England where they will be heavy and locally thundery.

Southern England could well start off largely cloudy with a little patchy rain, but it should become drier and brighter here into the afternoon with sunny spells developing and just the odd fleeting shower.

A touch cooler on Sunday with a brisk north-westerly wind. The wind will be particularly strong across northern and western Scotland, as well as Northern Ireland, with gusts of 40-50mph possible in exposed coastal areas.

Whatever the weather, have a great weekend!
