Friday 15 August.

Increasingly wet and windy

Sunshine and showers dominate to end the week, these locally heavy across parts of England today (Friday)
An increasingly wet and windy spell of weather developing over the weekend, especially in the north
Risk of strong winds or possible gales once again for some northern and western areas of the UK
Feeling particularly cool, if not rather chilly for mid-August this weekend, especially in the wind
Temperatures below average, especially across more northern areas.

Friday

The remainder of Friday will provide a mixture of sunshine and showers. However, unlike the last few days the showers will generally be less widespread and many areas of the British Isles will have a mainly dry day. With light winds and some sunshine it will feel warmer than of late as well. However, there is expected to be some heavy showers and downpours running down from the Pennines and into the Midlands this afternoon. Across these areas then some locally severe weather is possible along with poor driving conditions.
Saturday

For many central and southern areas of England and Wales, Saturday is expected to be dry with bright or sunny spells, but with a tendency for cloud amounts to increase through the day along with a strengthening breeze. For Scotland, Ireland and N England increasingly cloudy and damp conditions will develop and it will become windy here with a fresh or strong W or NW’ly wind developing. No heavy or disruptive rainfall is expected, but a rather cool, cloudy and windy day will develop across the northern half of the country.
Sunday

Posted Image

For many northern areas of the UK Sunday will provide some rather inclement conditions for mid-August. An area of low pressure passing to the north of Scotland will produce a strong or gale force N or NW’ly wind along with frequent, blustery or perhaps squally showers. Winds may well gust up to 40mph to 50mph in places, especially across W Scotland, N Ireland and down through the Irish Sea. Areas at risk of the strongest winds have been highlighted and it is across these areas that some travel disruption is possible and this applies to sea travel through the Irish Sea too

For more central and southern areas of England and Wales a bright and breezy day is expected but with a scattering of showers possible too. For all areas it will feel particularly cool, if not rather chilly for the time of year.
Temperatures

Temperatures will become below average this weekend, especially across many northern areas of the UK in particular. Temperatures across Scotland, Ireland and N England will range between 13C and 17C this weekend, whilst across central and southern areas of England and Wales highs ranging between 14C and 19C. The strength of the wind on Sunday in particular for more northern areas will create a distinctly cold feel for August.
