Stabbing Incident Aboard Bulk Carrier Leaves Two Dead, One Injured Off Delaware BY MIKE SCHULER ON AUGUST 17, 2014 ![]() Photo (c) MarineTraffic.com/GIBFRAN46 U.S. Federal officials are trying to piece together details of a stabbing incident aboard a Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier off the Delaware that left two people dead and another injured. According to a report from local newspaper DelmarvaNow and USA Today, the U.S. Coast Guard was notified early Friday of the incident that occurred late Thursday aboard the MV Genco Challenger in international waters off the coast of Bethany Beach. It is believed that one of the ship’s crew members stabbed two others onboard before jumping overboard. Both stabbing victims were airlift from the vessel to a nearby hospital, where one of the victims was later pronounced dead, the report states. The body of the man who jumped overboard was located near the vessel late Friday, according to the report. All three crew members involved are believed to be foreign nationals, but the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear. The report added that the incident is under investigation by U.S. Coast Guard in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. State Department, as well as authorities in Hong Kong. AIS data from MarineTraffic.com on Sunday showed the Genco Challenger underway in the Delaware River just south of Wilmington. The MV Genco Challenger is a 2003-built Handysize bulk carrier owned by New York-headquartered Genco Shipping & Trading Limited. Source:
