UK daily outlook - 7 to 9 October

By Leon Brown, Chief Meteorologist

Remaining unsettled with showers

Low pressure is in control of our weather now, in complete contrast to last week and much of September when high pressure kept us dry and settled. There are a lot more showers to come, but gradually winds will ease and showers will become lighter and scattered later in the week.

On Tuesday low pressure will centre near north east Scotland, this means some very wet and windy weather for the far north east of Scotland during the day with strong to gale east winds, and as much as 30mm of rainfall. There will be another area of showers over the Irish Sea moving over northern England and North Wales, and some heavy showers near southern coasts as they drift along the Channel. In between we'll see some bright sunshine too. Temperatures will be about average, reaching 15C or so in the south, but perhaps only 10 to 11C in the far north east.

By Wednesday another area of low pressure swings around towards south west Ireland with bands of rain and showers sweeping north east across southern and western Britain through the day. There will be local heavy downpours and thunder in the south, the best of the weather this time in northern Scotland.

The weather will improve for the south by Thusday with plenty of sunshine and just isolated showers. There will be heavy showers across Wales to northern England and southern Scotland. Temperatures will up a notch in the south to 18 or 19C.
