WEEKEND WEATHER – an improving picture Chris Burton Meteorologist Thursday, October 09, 2014, 12:11 GMT - It’s been a thoroughly unsettled week right across the UK with frequent spells of rain and at times blustery winds. While there will be further showers for a time this weekend, the area of low pressure responsible for the unsettled conditions should begin to move away into Sunday. Although Sunday will start off cold with patchy frost and fog, it should be a largely dry and fine day with lengthy spells of sunshine. Friday Friday will be a day of sunshine and showers. The showers will be most frequent across western areas initially, but they will begin to transfer further east as the day progresses. Once again, some of the showers could be heavy with the odd rumble of thunder, but some eastern areas of England and Scotland could well escape with a largely dry day. With lighter winds it won’t feel quite as chilly as recently with temperatures climbing into the mid to high teens across southern parts of the UK. Saturday Another showery day for much of the UK, with the focus of the heaviest showers likely to be across England, Wales and north-west Scotland. Lighter winds will mean the showers will be fairly slow-moving with some local thundery downpours likely in places. However, some warm sunshine should break through at times, particularly across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland which may well escape with a largely dry day. Temperatures around or slightly above average, ranging from 12-13C in the north to 16-17C further south. Sunday With clearing skies overnight, Sunday morning will be cold with some patchy mist and fog in places. Where skies do clear, a touch of frost is likely in some rural spots to start the day. Once any mist and fog slowly lifts through the morning, it should be a largely dry day with spells of sunshine. There will still be a few showers knocking around through, this concentrated around northern and western coasts. Cloud will increase across southern areas in the afternoon with the risk of some heavy rain edging into southern England by the evening. Some uncertainty regarding the timing of this rain and it may arrive overnight or early Monday morning. After a cold start, temperatures will climb into the low to mid teens across much of the country. Whatever the weather, have a great weekend! Source ......................
