By Michael de Villiers, Senior Meteorologist

We'll have another cold start on Wednesday with patchy frost and fog, especially over the north. It'll be mostly dry, although rain showers will still hang on over the eastern parts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland until late. Rain will increase and strengthening southerly winds will reach south west England and the Wales west coast around midday under an occluded front from the west, wet and windy weather will then spread north east across England, Wales and Northern Ireland through the afternoon and evening with clearer sky and showers following from the south west. Temperatures won't be far from average.

On Thursday the occluded front and associated rain will gradually clear the north. Over the rest of the UK it will be a mixture of bright and sunny spells and rain showers. The heaviest and most frequent and potentially thundery showers will be across south west England and Wales. These will move across the rest of England and Wales through the evening and overnight. It will be windy in the south west and along the south coasts with fresh to strong and gusty south westerly winds easing later. Maximum temperatures will be a little above the average for the time of the year in the south and around normal in the north.

On Friday much of the UK will be dry and bright with sunny spells after isolated rain showers, associated with an occluded front, clear Scotland. Around midday thicker cloud and warm front rain will move across south west England, south west Wales and Northern Ireland. The rain will spread north-eastward across the rest of Wales and western England on to Scotland through the evening. Fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds, reaching near gale at times, will spread from the south west Ireland coast in the afternoon to the south west coasts of England and Wales during the evening, and eastward through the English Channel. The southerly wind will result in above normal maximum temperatures across the UK.
