Weather watch – Torrential downpours and thunderstorms By UKWF - October 15, 2014 12:45 Weather watch – Torrential downpours and thunderstorms ![]() SYNOPSIS: An increasingly unstable SW’ly air mass will move into southern counties of England and also into Wales overnight. This is then expected to extend further north through Thursday bringing an increasing risk of some heavy showers, downpours and localised thunderstorms. FORECAST: Following a more organised band of rain today (Wednesday) scattered heavy showers will develop across SW England, Wales and S England later today and overnight into Thursday. The showers could be locally heavy with a risk of thunder and perhaps producing some localised surface flooding. As Thursday progresses the risk of heavy showers, with downpours and local thunderstorms, will extend further north into Ireland, N England and S Scotland. The showers may merge to give longer spells of heavy rain at times. Some localised flooding is possible in places, but as is always the case in this scenario, the showers will be ‘hit and miss’ and not everywhere will see them. Travelling conditions will be difficult at times due to surface water and reduced visibility, especially in any downpours and thunderstorms. A separate watch will be issued tomorrow morning, covering Northern England , Ireland and S Scotland. Valid from 1800Z Wednesday through to 0600Z Thursday ![]() Link ..................... http://www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk/weather-watch-torrential-downpours-thunderstorms/#sthash.J8yJJM9O.dpuf |
