Weather Watch – Torrential downpours and localised thunderstorms By UKWF - October 16, 2014 10:36 [IMG]http://www.ukweatherforecast.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/background-890x395.jpg[/IMG Watch information Low pressure is dominating the weather to the west of the UK and will maintain unsettled conditions throughout the remainder of the week. Of significance will be the development of an increasingly mild, moist and unstable SW’ly air mass that will progress north-eastwards across parts of the UK later today and overnight. Heavy showers, with localised downpours and thunderstorms, will develop across parts of SW England and south-western areas of the UK in general through Thursday afternoon. The showers will become increasingly widespread during Thursday evening as they continue to progress north and east. Main areas at risk include; Ireland, Wales, SW England, Midlands, S England, N England and later today and overnight into S Scotland. The risk also extends further east into SE England, but at the moment the overall risk is lower here than compared with further north and west. As is often the case in this scenario not everywhere within the Watch area will see the showers and they will be ‘hit and miss’. However, all the ingredients are expected to be present later today and overnight for some heavy showers, downpours and possible thunderstorms too. Some localised surface flooding is possible in places, especially on a more local and regional scale and as a result some poor driving and travelling conditions are to be expected.
