UK daily outlook - 17 to 19 October.

By Michael de Villiers, Senior Meteorologist

On Friday overnight fronts will be giving some early rain across north east Scotland but a dry start for the remainder of the British Isles. It will remain dry for many areas with the best of the sunny spells to the east, but fronts and a strengthening southerly wind will be pushing in across south west Britain bringing outbreaks of rain - these will be heaviest across Ireland by mid afternoon and then in south west England and south Wales by early evening.

There will be Strong southerly winds in the west by evening and 40 to 50mph gusts over western coasts. Temperatures in the east and south east in the high teens, maybe 20C, that's 4 to 5C above the average but feeling cooler in the breeze. 13-16C across Scotland.

On Saturday a band of moderate-heavy rain will push eastwards across Scotland, north England and Wales overnight. There will be a cold front lying across south England through Saturday with rain from Devon to Hampshire and extending north to the south and East Midlands to Lincolnshire. Expect a mixture of sunshine and showers to the north over Wales, north England and Scotland, with heavy and thundery showers in the north west. It will be windy, with fresh to strong south west winds too.

In the far south east of England the weather should stay dry and feel warm too. Temperatures will be 19 to 20C in the south east and 21C in a few spots, well above the average. Temperatures will be in the mid to high teens elsewhere but feeling colder in the wind over the north.

It now looks like the cold front will clear from the SE of England early on Sunday, with a mainly fine and dry afternoon for southern England. There will be plenty of sunshine, too. Further north it will be windy with frequent and heavy showers over west Wales, North west England and the west of Scotland. And there will be strong west winds with gales over coasts and hills in western Scotland - expect gusts of 50 to 60mph.

East England and east Scotland will be much brighter and see few if any showers. Temperatures will still feel warm in the south and east of England, reaching 18 to 19C in the south east, and perhaps 20C in East Anglia. It'll be cooler further north, with temperatures 12 to 15C in Scotland.
