UK daily outlook - 25 to 27 October

By Kerry Mason, Meteorologist

Saturday will be a dry day with bright or sunny spells across much of England and Wales in a gentle to moderate south westerly breeze. A few isolated light showers are expected over the west of Wales and north west England. To the north strong to near gale force south westerly winds will feed in widespread heavy rain showers to western Scotland, but to the east of the mountains in eastern Scotland much of the day will be dry with bright spells.

Winds may gust to 60mph in exposed parts of north west Scotland, 45 to 50mph towards the south of Scotland. Maximum temperatures 14 to 16C over central and southern Britain. 10 to 13C over Scotland, where it is likely to feel colder in the wind too.

It's a similar picture on Sunday too. Low pressure close to the north of the UK and high pressure to the south will give some particularly windy conditions - especially in Scotland, where there will be gale force south westerly winds and gusts of 50 to 60mph. Strong and gusty winds will also extend down to northern England and Ireland. Some heavy rain and showers will spread across Scotland and the north of Ireland, with rain reaching north west England later in the day.

There will be isolated showers over western Wales but the Midlands, southern and eastern England should stay dry and bright with sunny spells. Moderate south westerly winds are forecast over the south. Temperatures will still be mild in the south at 15 to 17C but feeling colder in the north and nearer 8 to 13C in Scotland.

24 hour precipitation totals are expected to reach 40-50mm widely across western Scotland. Locally, totals could be higher up-slope the Grampian mountains, and as a result a great flood risk. The tides will also be quite high this weekend and with the strong south westerly winds blowing extra water onto the West coast of Scotland, coastal flooding is a great concern too.

Monday will remain breezy, although less windy with further spells of heavy rain for western Scotland and a continued risk of flooding. Lighter rain and showers are expected over southern Scotland and north west England, and isolated light showers in Wales. It'll be dry and bright for the rest of England with mostly clear skies in the south where it will feel rather mild. Light to moderate south westerly winds are forecast over the south and strong south westerly winds across the north. Temperatures will be 16 to 18C over the south and Midlands, 12 to 16C over northern England and Scotland.
