Friday 24 October

Wet and windy in the north, mainly dry in the south

Rain and showers expected at times across the north of the UK this weekend
Despite a few showers many southern areas often dry with bright or sunny spells
Risk of gales and perhaps local severe gales across N Ireland and Scotland in particular
Temperatures near or slightly above average, especially in the south, after a chilly start to the weekend

Friday

Mostly cloudy conditions are expected across central and southern areas of England and Wales for a time as it progresses eastwards and then clears away. Following on behind will be drier and brighter conditions from the west. Across Scotland, Ireland and N England a mixture of sunshine and showers are expected through Friday with the showers heaviest and most persistent across W Scotland where some large rainfall totals are possible.
Saturday and Sunday

The coming weekend will produce a general north and south split in conditions across the UK with Scotland, Ireland and N England at risk of some heavy showers and longer spells of rain. Western Scotland in particular will see large rainfall totals. Across the northern half of the UK winds will increase over the weekend with gales and perhaps severe gales with winds gusting up to 50mph across N Ireland and S Scotland up to 60mph across Central and N Scotland.

Across the majority of England and Wales and especially central and southern areas of England and Wales a mainly dry weekend is to be expected with bright or sunny spells and just a few well scattered showers.
Temperatures

Temperatures ranging between 10- 14°C generally across Scotland, Ireland and N England over the weekend but milder, if not warmer further south with central and southern areas of England and Wales seeing temperatures range between 14-18°C. Apart from a potential chilly start to Saturday, nights will remain mild across many areas this weekend with no risk of frost.
