A changeable week ahead right across the UK with some cloudy and wet days, but also some drier and brighter interludes too.

The heavy and persistent rain, which has plagued western Scotland over the weekend, will continue through today, but it should turn drier through Tuesday.

A Met Office amber weather warning remains in effect for parts of northwest Scotland until 9am Tuesday, with another 50-75mm of additional rainfall expected.

The band of heavy rain, which has been sitting across northern and western Scotland over the weekend, will sink south-eastwards across the rest of Scotland, Northern Ireland through the day, reaching northern England and Wales by the afternoon.

It will turn drier and brighter across Scotland and Northern Ireland during the afternoon, but much cooler too, as winds swing round to a northwesterly direction.

Across the Midlands, southern England and East Anglia, it will remain dry and mild with lengthy spells of sunshine.

Temperatures ranging from 16C to 18C in the south and 9-14C across north-west Scotland.

The band of rain will continue to sink south-eastwards on Tuesday night, before getting stuck across southern Britain.

Therefore, Wales and central and southern areas of England will have a cloudier and cooler day with spells of rain.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England will have a cold and locally frosty start to the day. However, it will be dry with spells of sunshine.

Temperatures will recover to highs of 9-11C in the north. Cooler than of late across southern Britain, but still mild for the time of year with highs of 12-15C.

Another chilly start to the day in northern areas of the UK but it will turn milder once again for all as a warm front spreads north across the country.

This will introduce much cloudier conditions for all areas of the country with some patchy light rain and drizzle at times. However, some warm sunshine could break out across southern and eastern England during the afternoon.

Highs once again reaching 17C or 18C in some south-eastern areas of the country. 11-14C elsewhere.

A breezy day right across the country with heavy rain across western areas of the UK. Drier and brighter further east and staying mild too with temperatures climbing into the high teens.

It looks likely to be a soggy evening for trick or treating for most as the rain in western areas gradually edges eastwards. However, it currently looks likely to stay dry in south-east England and East Anglia.

This weekend

It currently looks rather unsettled through the weekend with showery outbreaks of rain for many, although there may be some drier interludes during Sunday. It will also begin to turn cooler with temperatures falling back to more typical values for the time of year.
