Monday 27 October Mild end to October Mild start to the week with further heavy rain across Scotland in particular, mainly dry elsewhere Large rainfall totals continue for parts of W Scotland with flooding likely Cooler, if not colder interlude mid-week, especially across the northern half of the UK End of the week set to see a return to milder conditions but with some rain and showers at times Monday and Tuesday ![]() The week is expected to start unsettled across Ireland and Scotland with further outbreaks of rain and showers at times. For parts of W and SW Scotland further additional rainfall totals are expected over both days and this will continue to produce some extreme rainfall totals, perhaps over 120mm in some places. A risk of flooding is possible and the areas at greatest risk have been highlighted on the associated graphic. For most of England and Wales it is a mild and mainly dry start to the week with some bright spells. Wednesday Into mid-week and a weakening band of cloud and rain is expected to become slow moving across central areas of England and into Wales. Ahead of this, across southern areas, it will remain mainly dry and quite mild. Behind this area of patchy rain and cloud will be much cooler conditions with a possible frost on Wednesday morning. Thursday and Friday Low pressure develops to the west of the UK and re-introduces a milder and more unsettled SW’ly air mass to many areas. This will bring mostly cloudy conditions, especially across Scotland, Ireland, Wales and western areas of England with some rain at times. More eastern and south-eastern areas of England will, overall, remain dry with perhaps some brighter intervals at times. Severe weather Across W Scotland the development of some very large rainfall totals due to numerous days of rain and flood risk is greatest during Monday and Tuesday. Be aware of possible frost and local icy patches first thing on Wednesday morning across the northern half of the UK. Source ..................... Matt Hugo, Meteorologist |
