UK weather: Halloween set to be warmest on record

Much of the UK is set to be remarkably warm day on the last day of October, with southerly winds drawing up very mild air from Spain.

Temperatures could just creep above 20C for a time on Friday afternoon somewhere in the southeast of England, temperatures we would normally expect during the late summer.

It could mean that this year’s Halloween is the warmest of record. The highest recorded temperature on 31st October is 20C, reported at both Dartford, Kent in 1968 and Waltham Cross, London in 1989.

Along with the high temperatures, much of England and Wales should enjoy some sunshine through Friday, although cloud will increase in western areas later.

However, Scotland and Northern Ireland will see more in the way of cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Heavier rain will then edge in from the west during the afternoon.

Trick or treat forecast

For those of heading out during the evening of Halloween, the weather is set to be a treat for those across much of England and Wales as skies stay clear and temperatures hold up in the mid teens for most. Eastern Scotland should also stay largely dry.

However, the weather will be more of a trick for those of you in Northern Ireland and western Scotland with cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain. Patchy rain could also edge into western areas of England and Wales later in the evening.
